Which zoo has the best / most diverse suid & peccary collection ?

Honestly you don't need to step over it to have a good look at the interior.

Other good exhibits, not sure if there is any picture in the gallery :
- Chacoan peccaries exhibit in Tierpark Berlin : spacious and very good looking, the gardening work is very well done. Chaco owls are also exhibited in front of it, completing the chaco feeling.
- The Visayan warty pigs exhibit in Basel, shared with Muntjacs and Indian rhinos. I am not sure the Asian small-clawed otters have access to this side of the exhibit but they share at least part of it with the rhinos. For a rhino exhibit, it looks really good and you have this kind of elevated "island" in the middle for the pigs and the muntjacs to hide from the rhinos.

Sorry @Rayane didn't see this comment earlier.

Will have to check out that Chaco peccary exhibit at Berlin as I think given how threatened the Chaco ecosystem is it is really interesting that they are are highlighting species from there.

Also that is an interesting example of a mixed species exhibit with the Visayan warty pigs and I will check it out.

Have to say though that I can't say I find the Basel exhibit all that great conceptually / thematically.

I much prefer biogeographic accuracy in mixed species exhibits and these suids and the rhino are not from the same region / habitat.

At the same time, miniature pigs and pot-belly pigs are semi-popular as pets (not to the extent of ponies). And never forget the impact of the kid's show Peppa Pig.

It's important to remember there's no such thing as a "miniature" pig. Those little pigs people get as pets to take photos of are drastically underfed to maintain a tiny size. Most people aren't interested in regular, healthy pigs :(

Some other suid enclosures which caught my eye in the gallery.

This looks like an incredible enclosure for Visayan warty pigs at Parc de Branféré:

While Philly no longer has multiple pig species, I felt I should point out their beautiful exhibit. It's one of the very few exhibits for Red River Hogs that has lots of grass as well as plants. :)

Also note that the time this photo was taken, the Red River Hogs were in another exhibit, however they aren't destructive with it and it looks the same.

Thanks for sharing @red river hog !

These are beautiful enclosures indeed, so verdant.

I was actually thinking to myself "It houses red river hogs ? really? why doesn't the substrate look ****ed up ?".

Then I scrolled down and saw your comment that it didn't house the hogs at that point and I understood why, lol.

Haha, yes Red River Hogs can certainly be destructive, however this enclosure still looks as green as it does in this picture!

Yep, given their habits of wallowing and turning over soil the enclosures of suids and peccary don't make for the most aesthetic looking enclosures (at least by human standards anyway).

Strange... really ? I would have expected them to have rooted up all that grass by now and for it to look like a WW1 battlefield.

It's a little dug up along the bottom rim, where the water also goes since it's a slope, but it's still almost completely grass covered. The huge yard only has 1 gazelle, 3 hogs, and a couple of birds. I'll take some photos of it on my next visit (the zoo is closed all january).

So it is a mixed species exhibit too ?

Wow... it really does o_O I wonder why it hasn't ended up looking like the Somme.

It's really large for what it holds.

Yes, it's mixed species!

Since they haven't been adding any animals to it, I have a feeling they're planning on converting the space into something else in the future. Which would be a shame, it's a fantastic ungulate yard.

Yes, that does seem quite a shame, it seems like these animals have an enormous amount of room to roam around.

I think that in terms of suid enclosures this one at the Woodland park zoo in the USA is perhaps the best I've seen in the gallery (never seen in person unfortunately).

I think it is really quite an amazing enclosure for Visayan warty pigs:

Another thing I would say is that I love the detail and care put into the signage and the educational content in terms of informing the visitors of the conservation plight of these suids which I think is very impressive indeed :

You'd love Jacksonville's exhibit for them in Land Of The Tiger. You almost feel like you're in the jungle itself!
