Which zoo will be first to have all three kinds of panda?

With the meme provided by the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie, raccoons have now been rebranded as "trash pandas".

Which zoo will be the first one to exhibit giant pandas, red pandas, and trash pandas (pending change of signage on the raccoon exhibit).

San Diego did have all three species in the relatively recent past, but I don't know if they still have raccoons, er, trash pandas.

there will almost certainly be zoos in China with all three - lots of zoos there have both giant and red pandas, and raccoons are probably not uncommon either.

All four US zoos with giant pandas also have red pandas, so any of them that have raccoons would also be on the list.

Also now very tempted to add a browser extension that changes "raccoon" to "trash panda" :D

Unlikely to happen in European Union or UK, due to recent invasive species legislation which will lead to total loss of Racoons from collections.

And which would be the first zoo outside China that will hold Qinling panda? At one moment, I thought this is the ''third panda'' that was the focus of this thread. :)

Is that a valid subspecies?

And looking at the size of the wild population of raccoons in Europe I do not expect that European Zoos will go out of raccoons. The UK might be the exception though.

Yes they are. The Qinling pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca qinlingensis) have been recognised as a subspecies of the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) because of their larger molars and smaller skulls. Qinling pandas are generally black and white although brown and white Quinling pandas have also been recorded. It is likely this was due to inbreeding or it could be another factor (the Qinling Mountains have been known to create brown subspecies such as the golden takin).

Am I the only one who at first reading the thread title thought of the Qinling Panda being one of the three instead of raccoons?

Heh, I wonder if there are any that do that with other meme names for animals, like narwhals as sea unicorns, or snakes as nope ropes. (I like calling vaquitas goth porpoises, but it hasn't caught on. YET.)

Nope rope is also getting changed now.... thanks for that one!

Does China also breed the Qinling subspecies in captivity?

Edinburgh just needs Racoons which i would love them to have. Five sisters zoo has racoons and thats almost in Edinburgh...by a couple of miles. I did especially love that line though. :p

If you type Trash Pandas on google, it comes up with a variety of other memes that call platypuses duck puppies, llamas - giraffe sheep, african pygmy hedgehogs - spiky floof, crested porcupines - stab rabbits, zebras - prison ponies, snakes - danger noodles (as well as nope ropes) and grey squirrels - tree rats (although proper tree rats already exist).

I think some of these come from Tom Haverford from Parks and Recreation.
