Anybody know if the elephants will be getting any further space since they no longer go on walks and keepers are not using as much contact?
As far as I know, was last at whipsnade in April. They are still going for walks just not when zoo is open, as too many people use to chase the elephants and spook them by trying to touch them. So they do the walks first thing in morning or late in the evening,Anybody know if the elephants will be getting any further space since they no longer go on walks and keepers are not using as much contact?
Nilgai have vanished. Solitary roan bull on the nilgai paddock .....

excellent. any idea where they have been in the meantime? The nilgai are still at Whipsnade but have been moved to the old gemsbok accommodation next to the gaur. The nilgai are currently confined to the hardstand and have not yet been given access to the paddock.
On my visit today, there was also a solitary roan antelope in the former nilgai paddock.
I think that ' pair' are both male?! I think there are young Oryx in the main paddock though, at least one, probably moreThere is a video on facebook suggesting a Scimitar Horned Oryx birth. I noticed a pair between the elephants and tigers today.
I saw the third one yesterday, sprinting around the field; a keeper said it's a couple of weeks younger and was hiding away before. There were 3 baby scimitar horned Oryx in the main paddock at the weekend.
Is this the first time Whipsnade will have been without American bison?
This is very disappointing ! There have been a few species either disappearing or dwindling at Whipsnade recently, I am beginning to fear Whipsnade is heading downwards in the way Marwell has!The last remaining American bison (a male) will shortly be leaving the collection. This will leave (IMO) an often overlooked but rather special paddock redundant. Also rather galling when you consider that, not far down the road, Woburn has quite a significant herd!
