The conservation center welcomed a male southern black rhinoceros calf (their first in 13 years) at the end of November and a female Indian rhinoceros calf at the end of December. Both calves are having to be hand-raised.

The calf was named Tidbit but he passed away near the end of 2019/ beginning of 2020. Since then White Oak has had a new black rhino born. A male named Rocky who was born in November 2020 to parents Tyson and Little Bit.

White Oak's website is revamped and I can't find any mentions of tours like their Safari from the Saddle, Winos for Rhinos or Crafts & Giraffes. Do you think they'll stop tours completely??? I've haven't been there yet and I was planning on spending a gift check I got over the holidays to go!

As of today 4/25 this is the latest review from Trip Advisor:

"Tours are $500 for up to 5 people. I'm not sure why you have to call them for that information but it doesn't say how much on website. They stopped giving public tours so if you just want to go yourself or with a friend, you'll just pay a lot more. When I first called them, November of 2020 I completely understood they canceled the public tours because of Covid. I don't know how much longer they had been closed before I called. But now it's March of 2022 and they still haven't resumed. It's outdoors so, why? The vehicle is open air so again, why? For reviews Trip Advisor asks "when did you go". I didn't. That's the whole point of this. But it's not a fake review, it's my experience with them. They were selling tix for $249 during a recent event, a film festival I think, so it's not like they can't resume public tours. It seems they are picking and choosing discriminately to only offer tours to people with a lot of money. I'm so disappointed in them." -littlemidg219

How will they operate without any tours, especially when they're trying to bring the rest of the Ringling Elephant herd? They'll need to get the public on tours again. Otherwise, how will they afford to stay open?

I could be wrong, but I don't think they are supported by the tour money. It definitely helps the bottom line, but I do not think it is what keeps them open. It could also be a staffing issue, running tours for special events and running them more or less daily is a different staffing proposition, I would think.

It's $500 for up to 5 people, and you don't get to see the elephants or all of the species. You get a discount on a tour if you all book a round of golf on their course. Tours aren't a priority for them.

I just rechecked and they no longer have a golf page and the "visit" tab on the website is gone!!! Looks like White Oak is turning into another SCBI.

1.1 cheetah cubs were born on April 5th, to first-time mother Ruffles. This makes them the fourth generation of cheetahs to be born at White Oak.

As stated in the North American Asian elephant Population thread, according to a USDA Inspection conducted on May 17, 2022, the White Oak Conservation Center now has 16 Asian Elephants.

Also on April 13th, the center announced that a (1.0) okapi was born in February. On August 27th, the center announced its name, Nanasi.

On May 3rd, the center announced they have transferred (0.12) Asian elephants from a facility in Polk County to their new exhibits at the center. The center originally acquired the females from Ringling Brothers Circus in 2017.
