White Tigers and Lions Currently in Captivity

In zome zoos which have only one white tiger, they are Bred with normal orange Bengals, resulting in normal colored cubs being bred. Occasionally however a white cub is born.

Usually zoos that have tigers (in talking about India) they usually have more than 5 of them, including a few whites
Another thing of note is, that from what I have seen the interest in white tigers doesn't seem to be as high in India as it is in Europe or North America from the general public who view them as the same as orange tigers. This might be why there isn't as high a demand to breed white tigers specifically there.

Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation Foundation announced this morning that they now have a four-month old white lion cub. Not sure where this one is from, since prior to this to my understanding they only had a single non-white lioness.

The zoo also has a white tiger, and while not strictly relevant to this thread it may also be of interest that they have a golden tabby tiger and a black jaguar as well.

North America wise, barring a few elderly individuals, all the white lions/tigers are either at roadside zoos or are rescues from roadside zoos. AZA has had a breeding moratorium on big cat color morphs for a while now.
Yes, I'm pretty sure The Toronto Zoo and Capron Park Zoo are the only AZA - accredited zoos which hold white lions, but these individuals are on the older side.

stumbled upon this thread and this is all i hav to say

west midlands safari park (uk)
zoo safari borysew (poland)

I take it the Wildheart Trust (Isle of Wight Zoo) no longer have white lions? A few years ago they had a pair, the male of which was particularly stunning

@FBBird ,The zoo still states that they have two white lions on their website, a male 'Casper' and a female 'frosty'.
Feed the lions in our beach sanctuary Sandown Isle of Wight
I also found many recent reviews on TripAdvisor [from 2024] that say that they saw the white lions, so they're still there.

Did they also have a normal colored male lion? White lions are leucistic, caused by a recessive gene. If they're bred with normal-colored lions, the offspring will most likely be normal-colored, but sometimes a white lion cub can be born, although very rarely.

That is, unless the normal colored parent had one copy of the recessive leucism gene. In that case, if bred to a leucistic lion there'd be a 50% chance of each offspring being leucistic.

So now apparently a zoo called DanZoo in Karachi, Pakistan has six white lion cubs

That general vinicity of Pakistan till Middle East seems to have a booming population of private pet tigers and lions recently. Including white lions and tigers of course. I realised it by chance when I was searching for pics and videos of wild-caught Imperial eagles and Saker falcons that migrate through this region and get caught in large numbers and sold to traders and "pet lovers". And I was met by barrage of big cat kittens paraded for likes on socials in such numbers and so poor health I had to quit my search.

Zoo Tábor (Czech Republic) has acquired a white lion 1.0 Gandalf from a private owner.

I went back and did some research, and found information that an old woman bought lions and other carnivores to keep her busy during "retirement." I'm not quite sure if they were confiscated, donated, or the woman is no longer here but Gandalf was transported to Zoo Tábor with his mate Aisha (tawny).

Randomly found this thread today, decided to point out a few white big cats from memory, not sure if they have been mentioned:
Rio Safari Elche has 3(?) male white lions from my last visit a few years back and a brown female, not sure on the breeding situation
Pairi Daiza has 2 white tigers, male Mumbai and female Sanka, not sure about their origins, but perhaps some of the Belgian zoochatters can answer for me
Loro Parque has 2 white tigers, Linmao (male) and Yangyu (female), who came from China

Rome Zoo holds a single male white tiger called Gladio, housed in what was supposed to be one of the Sumatran tigers' enclosure, before the opening of the area the zoo was contacted by authorities to house this seized pet and the zoo agreed.

Private tiger breeding in general is a very prolific (and illegal) business in Italy, where circus/ex-circus owners come in contact with mafia bosses and members (and other irresponsible owners) to provide them with their exotic cats, which if caught end up in State customs' centres for the rest of their lives because there's just so many.
