This morning seen on BBC news that a zoo in south korea have a drive through safari where White tigers & lions are together. Is this real? If so can some one explain how this is allowed & if at all acceptable. Having 2 species together like this seems to make no sense just a cheap entertainment value..Whats everyone elses opinions on this..

at least one of the English safari parks had lions and tigers together in the 70s (and perhaps later?). I can't remember which one off-hand.

Yes, a cheap entertainment ploy. Although it is interesting to note that historically, the range of lions and tigers did overlap. (They are still both found in India, but no longer in the same area). I'm sure there are many unaccredited facilities that do this, including Out Of Africa in my home state of Arizona.

Where do you think little ligers and tigons come from? :p

Circuses have been presenting lions and tigers together for centuries, (but of course rarely housed together when not in the ring.)

If the Tigers are stripeless that may make it very difficult to tell which are (maneless) Lions, and which are Tigers... Seems a pretty pointless exhibit too.

Random thing, but that just reminded me of something which was said on QI.

If a tiger and a lion have been completely shaved, then the way to tell them apart is that the tigers have stripes on their skin;)

Paradise Park in the UK had a tiger in with the lions during my first visit, though this wasn't the case on my latest trip

I'm still surprised that so far no one, including Siegfried & Roy, seems to have thought about producing white ligers...;)

I patent the idea for this new "critically endangered species" ;)
