Pouakai Zoo white tigers now at Pouakai

Another place I've never heard of - and my virus protection software is telling me in no uncertain terms not to go to their website (as a heads-up to everyone else).
good god, I just clicked on Pouakai's site. NOBODY should attempt to visit it, and if Pouakai aren't yet aware of what happens then I suggest they get it fixed pronto!!! Luckily my brother-in-law is a computer genius (unlike myself) and my poor computer is now all better (I hope)

To CGSwans and Chlidonias, I have contacted the company who designed our webpage and have advised them of what you have said. I hope to find out why you seem to have problems when all our contacts do not get the same warning. Will let you both know ASAP what the result is. Thanks for the heads up

there's a video on the link as well (if you don't like blood don't watch it)
One-eyed tiger will recover | Stuff.co.nz
29 Sept 2012

One of Pouakai Zoo's white bengal tigers is expected to make a full recovery after surgery yesterday.

Anila, a 5-year-old tiger, had an operation to remove her right eye after tests confirmed it had cancer in it two weeks ago.

She and her two triplet sisters have been at the zoo since April, 2010.

Zoo co-manager Fiona Carson said Anila would make a full recovery.

"It was a great success and she's already up and walking around, she looks really good," Miss Carson said.

She said samples taken from Anila's eye showed she had melanoma in her eyeball.

"Then we realised we had to take it out. The cancer would have spread and her quality of life would not have been good."

Miss Carson said Scott Hughes, surgeon, and Craig Hassell, anaesthesiologist, of the Stratford branch of the Taranaki Veterinary Centre, performed the 20-minute operation at the zoo.

Anila knew something was going on but was not fazed, she said.

"She kind of did because we had these photographers in there first taking pre-op photos," Miss Carson said.

"She was like ‘oh here come those men with the needles again'.

"She is a very laid-back relaxed tiger. She didn't get grumpy or anything."

After the operation Anila had to be kept away from her two sisters for the day but they were soon re-acquainted.

Anila will be back on display at the zoo today.

Sadly, Anila has died after losing her battle with cancer.

Story here: Cancer claims rare tiger - national | Stuff.co.nz

Rare white bengal tiger Anila at Taranaki's Pouakai Zoo has died of cancer.

The six-year-old underwent an operation a year ago to remove her right eye after she was found to have melanoma in her eye ball.

At the time zoo co-manager Fiona Carson was hopeful the tiger would make a full recovery.

Anila, known for her laid-back nature, was one of three triplet sisters which arrived at Pouakai in 2010 from Zion Wildlife Gardens in Northland after the death of one of the keepers there.

Anila and her triplet sisters Azra and Kahli were bred at the wildlife park for their pale fur and light blue eyes using parents which also carried the recessive white gene.

There are only about 120 white tigers in the world.

Carson could not be reached this morning but the zoo announced the death of Anila on its Facebook page last night.

The popular Pouakai Zoo is situated on Carrington Rd and is on the market.
