As l have been going through the gorilla gallery here on zoochat. I have selected some pictures over the past months. I now would like to frame them and hang in my house.

What l would like to know is the name, dob and sex of each gorilla shown. As l know peoiple will ask!!

The fourth one in the second post is a postcard from Howletts I believe; the fourth one in the first post is Port Lymnpe, and I think the sixth one is at Bristol.

First post- 2nd ZSL Bobby, 3rd looks like Paignton, 4th Djala at Port Lympne, 6th Jock at Bristol.

2nd post. 2nd is Steffi at Basel(a postcard photo).

It was taken at Paignton zoo and is the fantastic Dammisi, Caught him sunbathing before he went of to his arranged marriage at chester/chessington not sure he was 11 years old then Will get more info on him Later.

Dammisi went too Chessington.

The fourth picture on the second post is one I uploaded. This is of the female Tebe (born in the wild in 1980) and her son Kebu (born 10 March 2000 at Howletts Zoo). They both still reside at Howletts.

I took all the B&W shots in the first post (and I claim copyright - but I am prepared to waive it for bathroom use if I am asked nicely ;)). They are actually all identified in the Gallery. The gorillas are Bobby (aka Bongo) at ZSL, Djala at Port Lympne, Ambam at PL (I think, it's certainly one of the bachelors in the larger group) and Jock at Bristol. They are all males, for dates of birth etc consult Ron Davis' studbook.
The second shot in the second post is old Stefi at Basle, from a postcard I bought in 1973 and scanned recently.

I can't refuse such a good offer: you may use my photos with my compliments as you are obviously a scholar and a gentleman with excellent taste.

BTW Stefi (Christopher) wb 1949, studbook number 0038 & Tebe is wb.

Alan

Thank you Alan,

A Happy Ending.

4, Tebe wb 1980, Kebu cb 2000 both Howlettes

Tebe has an unusual and interesting history. She was sent to Howletts as a baby from a research station somewhere in Africa (Gabon?) in exchange for a blackback male from Howletts 'Etoumbi.' They later discovered that she had been scientifically operated on in Africa and they believed this meant she was sterile. Indeed for many years she lived at Howletts without breeding and developed a decidely 'male' attitude, often displaying and hitting the wire like a silverback.

Then in 1999 after years of apparent infertility she suddenly produced a surprise baby(male), which sadly died. In 2000 she produced another(also male) which she successfully raised, he is the one in the picture. In 2003 she produced and successfully raised another male baby. Motherhood changed her behaviour too and nowadays 'Tebe' seems relaxed and fulfilled in her maternal role with her sons in the group.

Okay so so far.

Thank-you

Have to say l am suprised that we have not been able to figure out the last 3. I was sure that 2nd post third picture was one of yours Alan. I also seem to think that 1st post first picture is from a zoo in texas??

The help of you all so far is very much appreciated.

Hello Zooman,

Thank you .Glad you liked the picture as someone else said you have good taste.

The Picture of Damisi was 'being in the right place at the right time'
He had been waiting for months to go to his arranged marriage and had been seperated from the rest of the group. He must have thought I will just chill out and get a few rays :D When the picture is blown up you will see that he is smiling:)

take care kkkp
