I've actually still got two more zoos planned for 2015 (though one is still a tentative plan) so I will post my list after I have finished for the year.
However I just thought I'd post a suggestion which might be interesting, of people ranking the zoos that they have visited this year, just a thought in case anyone was interested.

My list, asterisks denote first visit (as some of these collections were ones I visited a while ago so don't really remember; they too have been denoted by two asterisks); sort of in chronological order:

Flamingo Land (1)
Lotherton Hall Bird Garden (5+?)
Tropical World (4)
**Harewood House Bird Garden (2)
*WWT Washington Wetlands Centre (2)
*Sewerby Hall Zoo (1)
*East Park Animal Education Centre (1)
**The Deep (1)
*York Bird Of Prey Centre (2)
*Edinburgh Zoo (1)
*Highland Wildlife Park (1)
**Chester Zoo (1)
*Wetlands Animal Park (1)
*Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre (1)
**Twycross Zoo (1)
*Tropical Birdland (1)
Yorkshire Wildlife Park (1)
*Ponderosa Rural Therapeutic Centre (1)

18 different collections this year (best zoo visiting year yet :)). My top three favourites would be; 1. Highland Wildlife Park 2. Lotherton Hall Bird Garden (probably because I visit fairly regularly) 3. Tropical Birdland. The worst collection was Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre, but that was largely due to it being very busy and a couple of 'disagreeable' enclosures.

49 visits to 46 zoos. The only 'proper' repeat was Chester (the repeated vogelpark was a very small affair that just happened to be right next to our hotel!).

A bit sorry not to have found time for Bristol, Cotswold or Woburn this year but it's been a complicated one for various reasons. Also slightly suprised to find I only went to YWP once this year - will have to get back there soon.

Onwards to 2016!

A decent-enough year, but poor weather and a house move, as well as the normal stuff (work, family) restricted visits a little; those in italics were new for me.

So, 38 zoos - several multiple times - with 14 of them new to me. And three of the places have now closed down...

Three on my list have also closed in the last year.

I decided to count out of curiosity - only 12 of the days in which I visited zoos were to only one collection, but there were a total of 38 days of zoo visits - a much more substantial number than I would have expected.

This year I have visited.....

Colchester zoo
Africa Alive!
Banham zoo
Marwell zoo
Wildlife heritage foundation
Rotterdam zoo
Chessington
London sea life aquarium

My list of UK zoos for this year is a bit scarce, only consisting of a few visits to the Durrell Wildlife Park and a last visit to the Rare Species Conservation Centre. Luckily, this is being accompanied by at least 30 trips to other zoos so far.

There is also an outside chance I will be going to Manchester Museum on the 31st. I have matched my best year for zoo visiting at 42 collections, so it depends if I can be bothered to break my current record or not on the day.

*I have been told I have visited Muncaster Castle and Newquay Zoo when I was a lot younger, but I remember nothing about the visits. I haven't counted these as first visits this year, but both collections have felt like first visits.

**Many will be familiar that Peak Wildlife Park is the new collection on the site of Blackbrook Zoo. I visited Blackbrook a few times so I was familiar with the site and it didn't feel like a first visit, however as I am counting this as a separate collection I am treating this as a first visit.

Van hages is a very small local zoo free to get into and I visit almost every week so the actual number of total visits would be much greater but not much point me adding them!

This year I have visited 28 zoos in 8 countries with a total of around 40 zoo days (not sure exactly how many times I've visited Warsaw Zoo - about 10 I think).
