Why do some ZooChatters decide to have a blank profile picture?

Although majority of ZooChatters have profile pictures, it has always puzzled me as to why some members don't have one. I understand why many of the newer members have blank profiles, but certain long-time members such as @Terry Thomas and @Pertinax still don't seem to have one, despite being on the site for years. Out of curiosity, why do some ZooChatters choose to have their have their accounts this way? Do they think it just look better, don't have any idea of what picture to use, etc?

Never could see the point of not using my own name, any information I want to keep hidden is almost certainly already out there somewhere! Old age is not making me look any better, so a picture will not help, and I just cannot see any reason to add anything else. So a question mark is just fine.

When I took a break from zoochat, I removed my avatar partly to signify that I was not 'active' anymore, but also because I was tired of the old image but it did not feel like a good time to start a new one.

What I think is strange is zoochatters who have the name of an animal in their user name and an avatar of a different animal in their profile. I am guilty of this, I have a bovid in my user name, and my avatar features penguins, :D

I am also guilty of this :D

Elephants and gorillas are my two favorite animals, so I decided to do this to represent them each.
