This theme park in Georgia home to several animal displays has been listed on IDA's Worst Zoos for Elephants list for the fact it keeps Shirley, its single asian elephant (the oldest in the world at 75!) alone. Worth mentioning the park did keep two other elephants with her before they passed away.

On February 18th, it was reported that the theme park will be getting an expanded petting zoo, with a newly added silo detailing the place's history, and will have an area dedicated for guests to purchase food for the animals. There will also be "new" animals in the expanded petting zoo, though the article didn't go into detail. The petting zoo will open in early April.

Has anyone on the forum been to this place? I'm actually wondering how the non-zoo theme park rides are, I do enjoy a good roller coaster now and then and was wondering how it ranks next to Busch Gardens/DAK (I'm guessing pretty poorly?)

Not yet, but it is on my short list as it is not that far from me. I would not imagine it ranks anywhere close to DAK or Busch, think more along the lines of comparing it to the old Marine World Africa USA maybe? It is not that big of a place, but it does hold some interest to people that happen to be in the area...but I don't think I would travel too far for it. I have it on a road trip to Atlanta as a stop, it's about 1/2 way for me.

@SusScrofa
You might find this video review helpful, they go over all the rides as well as talk some about the animal parts. I just bought a pass, so I intend on going a few times in the next year.

Also, out of interest, the small Tasmanian Tiger coaster at Zoo Tampa was originally at this park.

The video says there's elephants at the park so I'm guessing he visited at least a year back when they still had the one cow.

Thanks for posting it, and have fun on your visits! Hopefully you'll post some pictures to the gallery after you go ;)

WA is doing a thing on Facebook that they post on Monday a clue to a new animal and then announce it at the end of the month. Given this week's clue:
Hint: These animals can jump more than 9 feet in the air! They are known for their large ears and long necks.
They also posted a picture of a spotted coat.

My guess is they are adding servals, which are a great addition. Small cats like that are good for parks like this, better than a half-OK habitat for another big cat.

Correct you are, as on January 14th, the zoo announced they acquired (2.0) servals named Kato and Pepo.

Correct again, as on January 21st, the zoo announced they acquired (0.2) southern tamanduas named Tiffany and Tasha which are now on exhibit at Oasis Outpost.

Another good animal for a park like this. The new "Oasis Outpost" should be ready by opening day as the park is closed for the season right now.

They have been teasing it this week, but it looks like the next animal being added this off-season are prairie dogs.

Prairie dogs were confirmed.

Next teases looks like spider monkeys are being added as well.

These new additions are really encouraging to see. They have been adding animals and sprucing up the park, the investments are a good thing for this place.

Spider monkeys were confirmed on February 5th, though they did not mention what species.
