Wild Animals in the Wild!

Hix, you're quite right! my apologies, if we do Monotremes, Marsupials and Primates next it should open the discussion to more members.

Well, I can't do anything for monotremes or marsupials, but I do have a short list of primates (of widely varying level of interest!):

- Rhesus Macaque (Macaca mulatta - Swayambhunath, Nepal)
- Crab-eating Macaque (Macaca fascicularis - Batu Caves, Peninsular Malaysia plus various locations in Borneo)
- Nepal Grey Langur (Semnopithecus schistaceus - Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, Nepal)
- Delacour's Langur (Trachypithecus delacouri - Van Long, Vietnam)

I did also see released rescue Bornean Orangs in a nature reserve attached to our hotel in Borneo but they were so humanised and being supported so heavily that I hardly like to call them 'wild'.

New species added that I'd forgotten until I saw it in another thread, should keep a list

Humpback whales - Cape Cod
Minke whale - Cape Cod

Orca - Victoria BC
Minke whale - Victoria BC
Dall's porpoise - Victoria BC

Dusky dolphins - swam with - Kaikoura
Sperm whale - Kaikoura

Dolphin - Auckland - not sure what type (sunfish also - not cetation but seen this day!)
Bryde's whale - Auckland

Dolphin near Patmos but not sure what kind

Any photos of these especially the Bryde's, Dusky, Dall's, Minke or Sperm Whale?

Southern right whale

Wow any photos of the right whale dolphins? Where exactly/how often have you seen them?
While we're on right whale related things, how bout the right whale haha?

I'd swap it for a humpback or blue whale in a heartbeat :p

Only reason I know exactly what it was is the fact it kept pace on the surface with the boat we were on for about 60 seconds, more than enough time to get a good look at it - and even though I was only 12 at the time, I already knew my cetaceans ;)

Never swap it for a humpback! There are so many places in the world you're practically guaranteed to see humpback whales! I would figure has to be the easiest to see species worldwide... On the other hand, I wonder how many other people in all of Zoochat have seen any type of Beaked Whale!

I know you were only 12, but any chance you got a photo of this creature? Any idea if anyone around snapped one??

Can you share any photos you may have been able to take of the Ferret Badger or Bornean Yellow Muntjac??
Unfortunately these were 'accidental sightings'. The ferret badger was in my garden for a few seconds and quickly disappeared into the forest and the muntjac I saw was on a hike, where I only managed to see the the body and it jumped away as soon as I was about to take a picture.

What kind of views did you get of the species in Bay of Biscay? Many animals? Can you share any photos you may have been able to take?

A few photos are already up in the Spain - Wildlife gallery:

http://www.zoochat.com/716/northern-bottlenose-whale-bay-biscay-10-a-415603/

I'll also include my favourite animal from when we arrived in Spain for good measure: http://www.zoochat.com/716/cantabrian-chamois-picos-de-europa-np-415623/ :D

Views were pretty good - these were just from the Britanny Ferries Portsmouth-Santander ferry, who have volunteer wildlife guides on board. We saw well into three figures of Common Dolphins, about a dozen Striped Dolphins, two pilot whales and just the one bottlenose whale, as well as sea birds, Ocean Sunfish, and, bizarrely, a migrating quail. There's about a dozen species of cetacean they regularly see - I'm hoping to make the trip again next year as we missed out on the really big species (Fin and Sperm Whales are regular sightings) and I'd still love to see Cuvier's Beaked Whale, which the southern Bay is one of the best places for.

There's a blog for the sightings here: https://brittanywildlifeofficer.wordpress.com/
