wild cats in NZ zoos

we recieved our Barbary Lions from Paradise Valley Springs in Rotorua
I wasn't aware Paradise Valley Springs were claiming their lions were Barbary lions.

Auckland Zoo once held leopards and some other cats (can't remember them all right now).

What happened to Auckland Zoo's Jaguar? I'm sure they had one (or some other cat) in an enclosure which now holds a rare bird.

its amazing how an extinct subspecies seems to be thriving in so many zoos all over the world...

There's a vaguely comical little cycle happening in Europe whereby every couple of years someone does a study and determines that all the 'Barbaries' are hybrids and a waste of time and effort, and then someone else comes along and does a study that finds that they're actually much more pure and distinct Barbary Lions than anyone ever thought. I think the most recent was a 'they're pure' study so we're supposed to believe in them at the moment! :)

To be honest, I'm not sure either way. But I do approve of a few zoos sticking with them while there's reasonable doubt.

It was a Jaguar and it was black, it has since passed I believe...

Yeah the black Jaguar has definitely died.

Does anyone know the names of the servals at Auckland Zoo, Wellington Zoo and Orana. Also the names of the bobcats at Franklin Zoo.
Thanks:)

Auckland originaly had 0:2 Servals, they were sisters. In 2001 a male named Indlozi (correct spelling?) was imported from Germany. Indilozi bred with one of the females in 2002 and a single male cub survived. He left for Mogo Zoo in 2003 and his mother went to Melbourne Zoo around the same time. The remaining female was retired from breeding but stayed in Auckland. In May 2003 a new female named Shay was imported from South Africa. She and Indilozi had 1:2 cubs in 2004/2005. The male is now at The National Zoo in Canberra and his sisters are elsewhere in Australia. I think Shay and Indilozi have had more cubs since then but I can't be certien on that.

Is this a new cub, or the cub from "The zoo" TV series that is a few years old, well the series I saw with a cub and a neck wound, which had to be hand reared.. They also moved them off show in the series before, which they bred and had two male cubs which were going to be used for educational purposes in a on show enclosure.

Its the same cub. If the boys were supposed to be used for education that is not happening at Auckland, at least yet. There are no Golden Cats on display at Auckland.

In the quite distant past Auckland had either a jaguar (not black) or a leopard that got out and drowned in western springs
