Bristol Zoo Project Wild Place Project News 2018

Having spoken to a keeper, they are struggling to find a species of a similar caibre to the wolves as a replacement for their current enclosure.

Do you mean once the wolves move to the new bear wood, or are wolves leaving the collection?

I was told the species of plant present in the enclosure are hazardous to many animals, and lots of the trees are protected which narrows the options further.

Let's hope they come up with something interesting

An interesting conundrum. Any suggestions here?

It would never happen, but Ethiopian Wolf would be incredible! We can only dream :)

I'd also say dhole would be a pretty ideal replacement for the wolves (they were, I believe, part of the old NWCP plans for the Nepal Grasslands area). I would second pipaluk with hyaenas as well - I would specify striped hyaena, as they could go either in the current Cameroon savannah area or the Nepal Grasslands if that goes ahead.

Just spotted this news on the Wild Place website that they've had more success with their Dik Dik breeding. This is the forth calf in just over a year and the second born in just over a month. Great news for the species and an excellent sign that they've got a happy and healthy collection.

Even more Dik Dik breeding success at Wild Place.
New cute arrival at Wild Place Project - Wildplace
