Wild places to see animals

To move the thread. :)

Gir national park in Gujarat, India, is naturally home to asian lions. You can see them easily on jeep runs and even walk into wild lion by foot! They don't attack people.

You can also visit the Rann of Kutch in Gujurat- its a salt desert and home to the Indian Wild Ass, which again can be seen well from Jeep/foot.

Yellow eyed penguins and other animals

If you want to see these rare penguins , go to a town in NZ called Oamaru

kiwis in the wild ? Stewart Island is your only feasible option

If you want to touch a tuatara , go to Nga Manu sanctuary , Waikanae ( near Wellington ) and ask the guide very nicely if he can bring one out for you to stroke .

Kuala Selangor ( West of KL ) is one of the best places to see milkie storks . There are also thousands of silver leaf monkeys nearby , but I dont know how rare these are .

Been there, done that. :)

I also saw kiangs in Tibet. They can be seen from the road around Yushu. Common roadside animals were also blue sheep, tibetan gazelles, tibetan foxes, black-necked cranes, lammergeiers, himalayan griffons, goldies', groundpeckers, and all these redstarts, rosefinches and snowfinches. Black-lipped pikas make huge colonies like prarie dog towns. Around them you see sakers and upland buzzards. We saw two wolves on a walk to one of the passes.

This road is recently paved (2006+) and avialable for normal cars on very long drive from Xining. Wildlife has good chance to last, so train your altitude stamina and bargaining skills in Chinese. ;) Or hire a guide.
