Manor House Wildlife Park Wild Welsh zoo

Manor House are currently looking for a deputy head keeper on the Biaza. In the advertisement it states experience of working with giraffe and rhino preferable. Looks like Wales might be getting another collection with giraffe.

The rhino house and exibit are ready. They are just waiting for 2:0 to be transfered however where they are coing from is a mystery as the pair that were "thought" to be earmarked for Manor House aren't going there after all

Any idea around the timeframe the new 2.0 set up will come in?

Also any planning known for the suggested giraffe keeping (staff being advertised for)?

I would have though (just personal opinion really) that Manor house would do well to expand its small animals, perhaps in particular its bird collection, alongside the big hitting rhino's rather than going for rhino's and Giraffe. Anyone agree?

I haven't been for years, but I believe the total number of species at the park was down to below 20 recently. This is no mroe than a quarter of what it was in the late nineties, and is something of a retrograde step. However, in term of building back up, they are very close to Folly Farm with its giraffes and suchlike, and perhaps they feel they need to compete on those terms.

Could you in future please check your spelling before posting any mroe posts.

My, whatever could that be referring to?

If I were posting an official announcement on behalf of my employer I would double- and treble-check. Chatting with some friends online I'm prepared to let the odd typo slip through. Is that OK?

Plus, accidentally transposing two letters is different to typing the wrong word entirely. If Twycross' Twitter feed had said 'soerly' I probably wouldn't have commented.

And by the way, your post is a question, so should end with a '?'. ;)

Back to Manor House discussion rather than petty points scoring?

I agree that this place is for chat and not for official announcements nor petty warfare. If you wish to talk grammar or maths go somewhere else for goodness sake! Let us please get back on topic here!

In all the reverse drive, no-one yet has answered my question. Any idea any of our posters? Thankx for the update. :D

In my recollection the Manor House used to be a private function/facility. But I would also rather see a more balanced collection with big crowd pullers interspersed with a more diverse animal collection. With cranes, pelicans, say couple of bird of prey species (vultures and/or sea eagles), some native species and say bears and wolves the place would be far more challenging on your average visitor to come back to dine ... (so to speak)!!

I still wonder how Manor House and Folly Farm will do in the longterm as both are similar 'generalised' wildife parks comparatively close together and in a rural area with no large city/conurbations closeby. Is there room for two parks to survive and grown along similar lines so close to each other?

I think if Manor House makes full use of the beauty of its surroundings, and the mature woodland, they can really create a different experience from Folly Farm. I feel that Follly Farm will market itself for a long time as an expanded farm/leisure park aimed at children. It depends how far Manor house choose to follow the advice of consultants and customer satisfaction sampling, I do wonder if the addition of kune kune pigs and Przewalski's horses was more to do with the desires of the owners rather than more strategic long-term collection planning.

I would say that continuing with ABC species would be a good addition past the rhinos and giraffes, particularly following Yorkshire Wildlife Park's example with the lions. Also it seems a waste to devote one of the wooded primate islands to a second group of lemurs when there is the main walk-through elsewhere in the park.

I also believe that, when you are situated very near to another zoological collection, you should work in partnership with that collection, both in a marketing/promotional sense, and also in a collection planning sense. East Anglia is a good example of a part of the country with many zoological collections in easy reach of eachother. Year on year, one major zoo in the region IMO appears to acquire species that happened to be particular features of neighbouring collections, and creates exhibits which 'outdo' similar in the same collections nearby. I don't think there is any need for this and a synchronised approach could see a group of zoos all complementing eachohter's collections and exhibits within a certain radius.

My guess is the target section of the populace in both cases is similar- viz; familes with children, particularly tourists in the Holiday season as it is very much a 'holiday' area.

I know Folly Farm provide other type amusements as well as their animal collection which could in the long run attract a greater number of visitors- unless Manor House can provide some more unusual or spectacular animal species which Folly Farm don't/can't compete with. Maybe they do already have some sort of arrangement so they don't replicate each other's animals too closely- so FF have the Giraffe and Manor House have the White Rhino etc.

I think you should cheack your spelling before making comments like this. Sorry couldn't resisit pointing that out.
I think "mroe" was an intentional misspelling by TARZAN because that is what Maguari had put. It was a quite unnecessary cheap shot by TARZAN though. Nevertheless, back on topic....

And what about all the bargain basement shots that are regularly made towards dear old Twycross on here, that's O.K. isn't it hilarious, well I'm afraid I do not find it amusing

as you have made clear, but was there a need to drag it into a Manor House Park thread?

There have recently been a number of new episodes shown on ITV Wales , though I think they were filmed some time ago .

Amongst the stories featured - catching up the Bison for TB testing prior to their departure , collection of Scimitar-horned Oryx from Fota ( Ross the MHWP Head Keeper was previously there and the Siamang family where Lisa came from is shown recognising him ). The Oryx with 2 others are released into the large paddock following the Bison's departure . The female Meercat introduced to the group of males disappears , a new female is introduced to one of the males and this pair breed successfully . The African Village is opened - home to pygmy goat and sheep . New additions - 2 male White-faced Saki from Banham , to go onto the island with Common Marmosets , Coscoroba Swans and Rhea for the South America paddock . A survey of Park wildlife reveals reptiles and amphibians , Fox and Badger .

A future episobe features Camel and Tapir births and a visit to meet their first White Rhino - from the clip possibly Colchester .
