WILD Zoological Park

The Jaguarundi pair have bred :)

"We are super super excited to announce a successful birth from our pair of Jaguarundi. Parents have been very protective of their den recently which gave us an inkling along with mom being a little bit plump but today a confirmed sighting of at least one healthy strong cub with potential for more inside the nest box hiding away. We will try and get some good photographs as they emerge from the den but this is what the cubs currently look like at a few weeks old. We are one of only a handful of zoos holding this species so this is a wonderful moment for us with a successful birth of such a rare species! Mom and dad are doing well, we will keep everybody posted!"

I visited today for an enjoyable hour and a half, after a visit to Dudley ( it's only 20 minutes away).

Of the 3 new small zoos all of similar size I've visited this year( Ventura & Hemsley being the others), I think this has by far the greatest potential and the owner has big plans for future expansion (not sure how much I should publish, so won't say anything at this stage!). There is also far more available land to expand into than at the others it seems.

A reasonable reptile collection, nothing I haven't seen elsewhere, but far better than I'm used to at my local small zoos eg Linton, Shepreth or Hamerton & more than plenty of larger zoos too!

The rest is a mixture of common species: ring tailed lemur, meerkat and red necked wallaby and some far less common like the Jaguarundi, kinkajou, black tufted marmosets and Palawan Binturong which shared a nice open tree centred enclosure with Asian Small Clawed otters. Loads of Macaws, some semi off show currently, the Southern Ground Hornbill are next to go on show.

The animal show featured a vulture, eurasian eagle owl, Harris hawk & macaw plus a skunk and the binturong. A free flying open air bird display is planned for next year.

The highlight of both zoo visits today has to be the Jaguarundi kitten though!

Friendly, approachable, smiling staff and owner, definitely £6 well spent, I wish them luck for the future and look forward to seeing how they're doing next year when I will definitely return.

I would agree with all of the above. It's early days, but this is definitely a place with great potential.

There are a couple of pieces of news I haven't seen mentioned here yet:

- 17 Jackson's chameleons have been born
- A male Asian palm civet (named Patrick) has gone on-show in a mixed exhibit with the Palawan binturong and Asian small-clawed otters. He has actually been at the zoo since January, but has had to undergo extensive rehabilitation after being kept in a cupboard as a pet.

Visited yesterday, they said in the show that the zoo will home animals rescued from circuses in europe, and will feature clouded leopards and tigers, which i am very exited for. I would love to the tiger to be an orange bengal, because it seems as if there are none in zoos in the uk (correct me if im wrong)

There are no pure ones outside of India so anything they do get from a circus will be a zoo hybrid mix of Bengals, and everything else.

If the owner was happy to talk about his future plans with you as a normal visitor then I'm sure none of it was top-secret. It does sound like it has great potential though - and £6 seems like a very reasonable entry fee. Will bear this in mind for next time we plan a Dudley visit.

Wingham went down this route (at least with their tigers and lions I believe) and it did seem to allow for successful quick expansion.

Sorry but I think you are wrong about publishing things you have been told one to one! I know about new species due to arrive in the UK at 2 collections this year that I've been told about as a normal visitor, but the people who told me knew I was interested enough to appreciate the information without publishing it!
Some of the species I was told will arrive at WILD are already mentioned, but not all!

There is a big difference between being a well known and trusted confidant, and just having a chat with someone you barely know. There is also a point to say if you really are being told something strictly in confidence you should just keep it to yourself and not be 'teasing' it on the internet. The fact you feel the need to do that suggests it has got more to do with you enjoying being 'in the know' than it actually being something you've been trusted with.

Sorry, but I don't accept that I was teasing! I had kept plenty to myself until I had to use it in response to your post! Also I haven't & won't publish information I've been told in confidence.

If somebody gives you some information, and you keep it to yourself, you could potentially be trusted with more information on your next visit. A lot of zoo staff members keep an eye out for what is being said about their zoo on this site. If secrets are spread on this site, it probably will result in people not being trusted with things in the future.

So whereas I'm sure that we'd all love to know what Pipaluk has found out about Wild, it's in his best interest to keep it to himself. The zoo will reveal things to the general public when they are ready!

Well said could not agree me more!I know of more than one collection that the staff used (May be still does) to give a regular poster a pile of bull manure, and then waited to see how long it was before it appeared on this site!

Staff will never trust people if everything they tell you ends straight on here,as you say sometimes the fact that you haven't posted what they told you on here, will in the long term stand you in better stead in the long term!

I agree that you should not just share everything you are told. I refer back to my previous post about actually keeping things to yourself if you feel you have been told something in confidence - and not post hinting at them which I see a lot of members of this site do regularly.

My point was that I just don't believe that anything confidential was shared on this occasion - the owner would not talk freely to a complete stranger about plans he really did not want others to know. Only a fool would do that - and I'm sure he is not a fool.

The zoo have received 1:0 Fijian Iguana and 1:0 Electric Blue Day Gecko called 'Freddie' and 'Dave' respectively. Both are due to be paired with females in the near future. Both are on-show in the 'Reptiles Unleashed' exhibit.

Visited today and must admit the place is rather small at the moment and a little cramped with no toilets on site, they are just outside, the collection itself is rather surprising with a good cross section for a collection just starting out.

At the animal show we were told of further additions to the collection and all I will say is it's not a TIGER.

The show arena is going to be replaced with a Clouded Leopard exhibit, Zebra's are going to be in a new paddock just at the back of the collection also the meerkats will be moving to this area as well.

A new aviary will be built to house Flamingo, Tapir and ALL (30+) the macaws currently in the collection

Staff are very friendly and willing to answer questions freely would like to say how good it was to see staff interacting brilliantly with young children in today's times many collections seem to discourage staff from inter acting with young people just in case (very understandable) I will say again WEEL DONE.

Other information given by staff but can't put on here sorry.
.
The collection as great potential and here's hoping it does well will be returning late in 2018 to see how they have in proved.
