The entire group of Peruvian squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis peruviensis) has left the zoo. They have moved to ZooParc Overloon. At Wildlands, the squirrel monkeys were free to roam among the visitors. This sometimes led to biting incidents and visitors feeding the monkeys. This is probably why the zoo decided to stop keeping this species.
After some adjustments, the pygmy marmosets, which are already housed elsewhere in the park, will move into the indoor part of the enclosure. The outdoor area will no longer be used. A new species will also be added to the enclosure. The southern three-banded armadillos that were housed with the squirrel monkeys will be moved to another location within the zoo.

Presumably the indoor enclosure? The full free-roaming area would probably be way too big for Pygmy marmosets.
It is a bit annoying, as the area around the elephants already doesn't have that many animals. I assume the Armadillos will move into the new South American mixed habitat they're building in the greenhouse

Kind of sad to see a species go, but definitely a good animal wellfare decision.
As an Emmen regular, I find this very disappointing 
The whole area surrounding the elephants outdoor yard was way too empty and the monkeys added at least a bit of life and surprise. They were kept in the old Emmen Zoo in a similar way and that worked fine as far as I was aware.
I’m afraid the armadillo’s will move back to the pen at jungle Jim which is only accessable during the shows (they were kept there before) and also move out of sight (although they were never very showy near the squirrel monkeys).
Considering the size of the exhibit, there’s very little they could add there. Another callithrix, Tupaia or prevost squirrels perhaps?
