Wildlife in Zoos - 2013

There's more to the bobcat story. A rather complicated situation, but needless to say, it did end up on display (though, I'd rather have had the Suni he ate).

Then do tell. If you don't think others want to hear it feel free to PM it to me.

I have seen many wild birds in UK zoos.
Many corvids, waterfowl, song birds and gulls. Highlights are Grey heron amongst flamingoes at Birdland and Red kite at Hammerton.

Mammals are...
Rats/mice- London and Shepreth
Grey squirrel - about 75% of zoos i've visited!
Rabbits- Hammerton, Isle Wight Zoo and Whipsnade

And even a common toad at Paradise Wildlife Park

Uhh.. Let's see if I can remember all of them...
El Paso zoo: I saw common grackles, ruby crowned kinglet, verdin.
Tracy aviary: California quail, sharp shinned hawk, northern flicker, starlings and a bald eagle
Hogle Zoo: black billed magpies, mourning dove, starlings
Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center: Ravens (all day every day) and mountain chickadees (they'll have blue birds in the spring time)
Rio Grande Zoo: Black crowned night herons, They have a giant duck pond with a lot of fowl, but I have no idea which ones are wild and which ones live there since I've never noticed any bands. dark-eyed juncos, white crowned sparrows, starlings, American crows, white breasted nuthatch
Denver Zoo: fox squirrel, desert cotton tail (everywhere!) common grackle, starling,
Pueblo Zoo: fox squirrel, starling, mountain chickadee, wood duck, house finch, downy wood pecker, northern flicker, yellow-rumped warbler

aaand that's all I can think of for now.

While I didn't see them in person, the fresh layer of snow that fell Friday night provided a great oppurtunity to see tracks at Beardsley. I saw Common Raccoon, Eastern Gray Squirrel, and fox tracks.
