Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium Wildlife World News

Am not a picture guy--didn't take any, sorry. Also the lighting for all but the large yards is difficult because of the contrast between the bright desert sun and the relatively heavily shaded spots in which the animals take refuge from the sun.

Are there any more sources regarding any alleged wrongdoing by Wildlife World? The transport of the baby cat at 12 days of age is a clear violation, but everything else appears to be perfectly legal and just framed as "trafficking" by the animal rights-leaning website. Though shady, all of those facilities that received animals from Wildlife World are USDA licensed.

The files are attached to the blog post, what more do you want? License doesn't matter if you don't fill out the paperwork or follow the laws. And the blog isn't ARA, it's run by keepers. They support good zoos and proper practices.

USDA license means relatively little - additionally it was recently found that one of the inspectors for several of the particularly bad places was not doing her job properly and was overlooking various violations. Wildlife World has history with various places run by now convicted animal trafficker run places.

Please correct me if I'm misreading the attached documents, but those all look like properly completed and approved transfers.

If a facility is operating within legal parameters, but its practices are still considered substandard, I feel the energy should be directed toward raising the legal standard.

I haven't gone through them. I've never seen the blog be wrong about something, given the legal implications they could face if they posted something untrue.

I agree. But USDA compliance is what qualifies transfers as "illegal trafficking" versus "legal animal swaps." I feel it does a disservice to the very real problem of wildlife trafficking when legal activities are erroneously categorized as such.

USDA enforcement is a real problem. And not just at roadside facilities. I've witnessed firsthand USDA inspectors turn a blind eye to infractions at major AZA-accredited facilities. This issue seems to have improved slightly under the current administration, and I'm hopeful this basic enforcement continues. Are there any articles about the corrupt inspector you referenced?

That's precisely my problem with it. The records listed are absolutely correct, but they imply that the transfers are illegal. Which convinces concerned folks like you that something illicit is going on when in reality, it's all legal-- even if it's not a best practice.

You're not understanding what I'm saying. I have been following that blog for years. They do not post things that are wrong, because they could be sued over it.

People always have a bent or agenda, even if they don't see it that way. We all do and I think we have all seen blogs or websites with posts that are potentially slanderous or libel, often they are not actioned on if they are relatively under the radar or unless they gain real traction. The issue here is that the posts are not wrong per se, it is the connotation they are giving them.

Of course they do, but their agenda isn't what it's being made out to be. They are not ARA, they do not want an end to all zoos and all captivity. They have had people try to go after them before, unlike most things people say online there are people actively watching for things they can go after.

I can't confirm in person, but the map has replaced the abysmal tapir habitat in the "Original Zoo" with cassowary. This would be in line with improving the Original Zoo habitats and moving animals out that were not fit in the space.

My understanding was that Dozer the tapir was only living there temporarily.

When I was there at the end of November, tapir were in the yard right next to the sky ride and in the America's section

Interesting, when I was there in October they were in those as well as a small yard across from the red lechwe in the original zoo. I did not actually see them in the yard by the sky ride, but I did see them in the yard in the Americas (Adventureland). The map was signed with three pens: sky ride, Adventureland, and Original zoo.

Now the map shows three pens, two in Adventureland (beside one another) and one by the sky ride.
