Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium Wildlife World News

A white rhino was born in the safari park (they have two rhino enclosures, one in the Safari Park and one just outside Adventure Land). Born November 7th.

Siki’s arrival has been nearly a decade in the making, starting with the zoo’s highly anticipated rhino conservation breeding plan. The project brought in 3 unrelated female rhinos who were orphaned in South Africa, and have three completely new bloodlines for breeding. Wildlife World also acquired a once imported male rhino from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

I saw one in it's paddock but neglected to take a picture.
It be nice to figure out which Galapagos tortoise that historically entered the collection this individual is. They did have one that was more or less determined to be a purebred hatchling of one of 4-5 Chelonoidis Galapagos tortoise.

I have an un-used adult ticket from Groupon if anyone thinks they will be going before March 22 2024. My wife was supposed to come when we went last week, but she got sick and had to stay back. PM me if you want to have it.

* This is one of the first times (at least that I am aware of) of someone using an otter for search and rescues. Surprised nobody has thought of that before this year.

WW has updated the map on their website, it now shows little animals in place of the text names for species. Of particular interest is the tigers are shown in the new habitat and the lions occupying both the old lion and tiger areas in the Original Zoo. In that same area it shows jaguar taking the entire area that also housed Thomsons gazelle, flamingo, and parrots. Also in Adventureland they show javalina in place of the mule deer, sika deer, and crested screamers on the left side of the area.

I will be going to WW at the end of the year, so I can confirm some of these changes if nobody gets there before then. I suspect most of the "missing" exhibits are really just left off the map, for example I highly doubt the expanded the jaguars into that whole area - the jaguar enclosure was decent and it took years to build the new tiger exhibit.

This is still one of the best zoo maps around currently, but I liked the old one better, it really gave you a great idea what species were where.
