Wildwood Zoo Wildwood Zoo News

Had a wonderful visit to the zoo today, possibly the best visit I've ever had to Wildwood:

  • The Kodiak Bears were extremely active running and play-fighting.
  • The Monarch exhibit is currently empty, but it occupies what was the Ornate Box Turtle exhibit.
  • As previously mentioned, the prairie dog exhibit sits empty.
  • The new Cougar exhibit is wonderful! It's much large than the old one and has lots of rocks and trees to climb. The old exhibit currently sits empty.
  • I had heard there were renovations to the education center, but I didn't know they were extensive as they were. It appears that they tore down the whole building and built a new one! This new building still has the honey bee hive, but they added several terrariums, a fish tank, and indoor viewing for the Cougars.
  • The new species added in the education center are Pumpkinseed, Green Anole, Eastern Tiger Salamander, Eastern Hognose Snake, and Common Chuckwalla. In addition, the Ornate Box Turtle has been moved in here.
  • It appears the zoo no longer keeps Rough-legged Hawk.
  • Despite the health issues, the Mountain Goat is still on exhibit! This was my first time seeing this species and they are awesome!
  • As if my day wasn't good enough I also saw a wild Pileated Woodpecker while I was here, and got some great photos of an extremely tame wild male Wood Duck wandering the zoo's grounds.

Updates from my visit today:
  • The former Monarch exhibit is now home to Domestic Rabbits, the zoo’s first non-North American species.
  • I saw the new prairie dogs. Very active!
  • Now that the fish have gotten bigger it appears they are Green Sunfish, not Pumpkinseed.
  • The Mountain Goat is still around and doing much better!
