Wilhelma Zoo Wilhelma zoo, Stuttgart

The demolition of the 1970's former gibbon exhibit will start on January 20th. A group of Colombian brown spider monkeys living in a adjacent exhibit that will also be demolished will be moved to Amneville in France this month. In the future the area will be used for an expansion of the Terra Australis area dedicated to Australian and Oceanian fauna.

Glad to see the spider monkeys also leaving, that exhibit was a real eyesore for the animals, though interesting from an architectural point of view.

In 2024 the first Eastern quoll were born in the Wilhelma, with one successful litter being on display now.

Equally nice for us is that the zoo has uploaded the complete animal inventory up to 31/12/2023:

Some of the until now unknown Walsrodean additions include lesser bird of paradise and curl-crested aracari. Unfortunately the weedy sea dragons acquired in 2022, wheren't even kept anymore at the start of 2023.

I think, there are more unkown birds, because some birds like Toco Toucans weren't mentioned and according the Wilhelma magazin is there a third bird of paradise species

Those all arrived in 2024, you cannot expect a 2023 stocklist to include them, and the toco toucan arrival was widely published. The 3rd BoP species is likely Raggiana's, given ZIMS lists 2 German zoos with this species.

Oh sorry, I thought all the birds from Walsrode arrived at the same time at the end of 2023

Some news from the German Zoofreundeforum
• The Alpacas will be replaced by Vicuñas
• A new shelter is built in the South American ungulate enclosure
• The Round-eared Elephant Shrews are replaced by Persian Jirds (in the giraffe house)
• Chestnut-eared Aracaris are free-flying in the Amazon greenhouse too
• The subtropical terraces will be renovated: the right side is completely cleared (there aren’t any aviaries anymore), some birds aren’t on show (especially that birds that were hold there in two or more aviaries), and some moved to the left side
• The Eurasian Eagle-owl moved into the former White-tailed Eagle Aviary and the Northern Bald Ibis moved into Eagle-owl aviary
