Will a fake hand in the cage help tame a wild bird?

Will placing a fake wooden hand in the cage help tame a wild aviary bird (parakeet, cockatiel, etc) to be less afraid of people's hands and fingers?

Probably not, but it will certainly give them something to chew on.

I agree, parrots will chew on it because its made of wood, but wouldn't the bird who is now perching on the wooden fingers make the connection that hands are not scary for them?

Parrots are not that stupid. You have to realise the birds already know you and members of your family by face and may have worked out your sex and your standing in the family.

Cockatiels and budgies are easy to train. Start by offering a treat at the same time every day and you will soon have them feeding from your hand, then your palm and if you are keeping them in a secure room or an aviary, will take it off your shoulders etc, It will not take them long to do that without the treat. You only have to spend a couple of minutes each day, but the training must be regular, every day if possible.

If anything it would probably teach them its ok to chew on things that look like hands.
As an aside I had a tamish budgie in a tree outside my house on Halloween but I could not coax it to come to me. It was about 10 ft off the ground.
