Will there ever be life from other planets in our zoos? New search for life on Mars

For anybody interested in exobiology and the search for life on Mars this may be of interest. NASA just launched the rover Curiosity to explore for signs of possible life on Mars.

Assuming that we actually do discover life on Mars, I wonder if ZooChatters 100 years from now will be discussing whether the Beijing Zoo or the San Diego Zoo or (insert zoo here) have the best Martian microbe exhibit?

I suspect that any microbe exhibit will be rather too small to attract much attention. But it could fit in between the black smoker ecosystem display and Antarctic ice fishes aquarium.
Actually I am very sceptical about the possibility of finding living organisms on Mars or anywhere else in our solar system.

Your skepticism is quite possibly well founded Alan, but intriguing indications that it might be out there keep popping up: Jupiter’s moon Europa: Lake theory boosts hopes for life - The Washington Post

Hopefully we'll have some definitive answers in upcoming decades, at least for Mars and Europa. It's an exciting time to be alive.

Given the sheer size and continuous expansion of the universe, the billions and billions of stars that have billions and billions of planets then I am quite confident that there is life out their. Considering the building blocks of life are fairly small in comparison to the number of stars and planets surely life forms must exist whether microbial or vastly more developed than humans.

The problem that we face is the super colossal size of the universe and the fact we currently travel through space at a pitifully slow speed that we would have to live millions of years to visit them. Space and time is just not currently cut out for humans travelling through space given a human life span.

Also, I question if there are any advanced 'creatures' out their many many light years away who keep less advanced species from their own planet in environments not natural to their real environment like we do?

Anyone heard of a Mos Eisley zoo? :p

I am a bit of sci-fi freak and I would ask a little bit different question - will we ever have a zoo on a different planet? :p

Here´s one of my "great sci-fi style conservation ideas" - we discover a suitable planet, terraform it and set up a safe haven for our endangered species there, especially species which we find hard to save on Earth...:D

I know, first we have to figure out, how we´re gonna get there...

Hehe, good guestion.
I´ll try to use Stargate as an example :p
Tollan race was very advanced race, but it was mentioned that they have destroyed their environment and all natural resources. They were amazed by the amount of animals on Earth. So they wouldn´t probably be against zoos on their planet, but they didn´t have any animals to put there.
Nox race, on the other hand, was even more advanced and lived in total harmony with nature. They didn´t understand the principle of killing or even capturing an animal for research purposes.

So, if there are advanced aliens out there, I hope they are like the Nox a will come and give us a lesson ;-)

On the first version of the "Star Tours" ride at Disneyland (and other Disney parks around the world) there was a screen showing clips of the destinations that the Star Tours operation went to, including the Galactic Zoo on Tatooine where you could see the Rancor and other weird critters.
