Great news, WWP's cat collection has extended quite a lot. Tigers first, then Lions, now a pair of Jag's too? Great.

I see this is one of the two cubs who were born 'white'. ;)

And a subtle way of developing their brand as being distinct from the Aspinall parks - Jaguars are a big cat species that they've never held.
 
Wolves arrived yesterday. They are two male and three females (from different collections) currently off show whilst they settle in....

They appear to be Timber Wolves from the photo on WWP's facebook
 
I would be inclined to suspect, based on the post about their plans for wolves back in October, that they are European Wolves, not Timber Wolves.
 
The male and female pumas and jaguars are now allowed into their enclosures together, they seem to be getting on well.

On 15th January 2 of our keepers travelled to Heathrow airport to pick up a male Smooth Coated Otter who had made the trip to the UK from Vietnam.

Prior to this we had 2 females born in the UK, and we are very excited to be able to put this male together with one of our females to hopefully breed in the near future! He is the first unrelated male to all the other Smooth Coated Otter in Europe to enter the country since 2009, so this was a huge step for us and our work with bringing unrelated bloodlines in to European collections where it is needed!

He is currently in quarantine where he will be for another 3 and a half months but if you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of him before this time.
 
A great species - albeit one I am yet to see - so the potential for opening up the genepool a bit more pleases me.
 
More Smooth coated otters entered the captive population ! At the Suvarnabhumi Int. Airport in Bangkok - Thailand a bag containing 11 ( ! ) otters was found. 6 Smooth coated and 5 Oriental Small Clawed otters ( all young ones ) were found inside. Nobody claimed the animals and they were brought to the Bang Pra Breeding Center for further care.

Maybe some of these animals can be brought to Europe to make the founder-potential larger.

I don't have anything official but from a photo posted on Wingham's facebook (not by them) it looks like they may have some penguin chicks.

I'll try to find out more
 
A male Brazilian Tapir has arrived from Germany (new species for Wingham)
 
1.0 Caracal has arrived from Zoo der Minis Aue in Germany to form a potential breeding pair with Wingham's exsisting female (current male is her brother)
 
A 2nd male Smooth Coated Otter has now been imported, this time from Malaysia: Quote from the parks Facebook

Some more great news on our Otter front! We recently picked up another male Smooth Coated Otter who is currently in quarantine at our park... As with the male who came from Vietnam this little guy is completely unrelated to all the other animals in European zoos at the moment and comes from Malaysia!

Lets hope they bring in some more of this sub-species,rather than just 1 male to mess up the pure bloodline of the Vietnamese sub-species which is currently in the UK!!!!

Eh? There are only two confirmed extant subspecies and one (L. p. sindica) is limited to Pakistan and part of India. The remainder of the range has animals of the type subspecies. Might be a different population but barring exceptionally unlikely circumstances it will be the same subspecies.

In that case I have either jumped the gun on something or made a mistake it could very well be the later!!
