Wingham Wildlife Park Wingham Wildlife Park News 2020

I agree, some of the tours have been great!

The new trail canopy of the orangutan is now open!

We have a brand new addition to the orangutan building that concludes the work on the Rainforest SOS section at Wingham Wildlife Park. The path of the canopy of the orangutan is an innovative extension of the habitat of the orangutan, as it has never seen in Kent and is at the forefront of designing habitat the zoo in the country.

The canopy trail is not something that visitors can use - this is not a path among the leaves allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the orangutan exhibit. Rather it is a way for orangutans can immerse themselves in the park. We took a connecting corridor between the inner and outer areas of the habitat of orangutans and turned it into an integral and exciting habitat as a whole. Why how animals move within the enclosure should it be less engaging than the rest of the enclosure?

The sight of this new path covered is incredible, and orangutans (Dayak and Belayan to be exact) now undoubtedly the best view of the park. Overlooking hectares of orchards in all directions, the entire park, traffic in the distance, birds of prey that hunt in the meadow beyond the orchards and much more! More importantly, they can see it all in the same position as Borneo ... More than 5 meters high!

Orangutans now have full use of their habitat with the Dayak brothers and Belayan sharing half of the exhibition with the cascade of tree stump and Jin and Molly sharing half with the rock pool and cave cascade (sorry but it is understood). Come see the park every day, especially now that the path of the canopy is open, with the most exciting way to see our orangutans as they pass above the zoo, dinosaurs and even you!

I was just watching the Wingham video posted on FB today about the chimps and orangs, and it seems Dyak the orangutan has died, leaving half brother Belayan on his own.

I just watched it and was very surprised to hear that too.

Bad reaction to moving zoos? Some orangutan do suffer this- going into a depression.

I wondered about this. He was only 11. I may be wrong, and maybe it's still possible to check on FB, but wasn't he shown on the earlier video the zoo did that included the orang enclosure?

I've now had time to rewatch the earlier video and Jin and Molly are shown in one part of the enclosure while Belayan is under a sheet in the other, with no mention of Dayak.

I'm sure I saw one of the live comments whilst the video was premiered, saying that he died due to an unresponsive infection

I'm really enjoying how proactive and up front Wingham have been throughout this whole situation.
Unless they are party to information being with-held from other zoos (which of course is quite possible), then their 'proactive' plans will have to be changed if the Government announces something different. They perhaps have the money to gamble on this, but other zoos may not.
