Thought i would introduce this recently opened collection to those who haven't heard of it yet. It was actually called wingz bird sanctuary but they have just decided to change the name. It was opened in May by Grenville and Anita Allen from thier own private collection with thier aims being to conserve rare bird species from all round the world and educate people about all the birds and animals on display. I have been following the parks progress on thier facebook page which is updated daily and thought i would post a link here for others to follow Wingz Bird Sanctuary | Facebook.

Some news on the crimson rumped toucanet front:

They have said on thier facebook page they have had "contact from someone regarding a crimson rumped toucanet" so hope on that front for a pair in the UK. The 4 in zoos are the female at Wingz , a male in villars les dombes in france and a pair at Walsrode apparently.

In other news they have had 2 Meerkat Babies

I help out here occasionally now so if anyone has any questions or anything they want to find out about the collection, let me know and I will be sure to ask for you.

I follow Wingz on fb, and really enjoy reading the updates. It sounds a really friendly place. I hope to visit one day

You should it really is a nice little place and grenville and anita are really nice, i volunteer here sometimes and they have some big ideas and some aviaries still to go up.

Thought i would post a stocklist for the collection, most of the amazons, macaws and domestic species are rescues that have been rehomed at Wingz. A few losses including a male bali starling and a few others occured not long ago due to an inconsiderate neighbour and some fireworks. There is the hope that there will be a few new species as well as some more specimens of current species to pair up with thier single birds by next summer. Some of the transfers being mentioned at the moment are very exciting so keep tuned. Busy at the moment just building new enclosures and upgrading existing one's.

I'd like to visit when I'm staying in Paignton in September on my annual zoo-visiting week. How far is it from Par Railway Station please?

Some news from the zoos facebook page:

"This week will be the last chance to see our crimson rumped toucanet as it is off to the netherlands as part of a breeding program"

It is a private breeder who specialises in breeding of toucans and other softbills and has a great set up. They came to the decision that it was best for the female to be paired up and possibly breed and in return will be recieving a pair of fairy blue birds and a pair of red crested cardinals.

Just some quick news since my last update.

- The new pairs of fairy-bluebirds and red crested cardinals should be on show as of monday.

- A japanese white bellied squirrel has been born and was seem around the enclosure today, can't see into the nest so not sure if there are any more.

- 2 Tropical mockingbird chicks have hatched and are doing well.

- A Bennets Wallaby joey has been seen poking out of the new female.

- 3 Hawaiian Geese have hatched and are doing well.

- Crimsonwing parakeets, reeves pheasants and peafowl have started sitting on their eggs. Also azurewing magpies, purple glossy starlings and white cheeked bulbuls have built their nests.
