Woburn Safari Park Woburn Safari Park news 2025

I went for the first time on the 23rd, and I had a brilliant time. I thought the entrance area was quite well designed if a bit old here and there, and the elephant enclosure is a lot better than photos do it justice. One of the tigers was in an enclosure not accessible by the cars, while the other was out and about. The bears were a highlight for me as I have never been anywhere with bears in a drive thru before, closest being the polar bear bypass at highland wildlife park. I saw an adult bongo, and a small creature running into a bush from behind it, however, due to me not being in the monkey drive thru I could not identify if it was the newborn bongo or just a macaque. Finally the giraffes are in the winter barn, and do not have Access to their drive thru paddock. Overall a very nice experience.

A female Nubian giraffe named Sahara has undergone a 1 hour procedure on her kneecap which was causing a condition called " locking stifle" which caused her kneecap to lock and limited her mobility. She has recovered well ! With no previous experience with this condition in giraffe surgery they used a technique normally used for horses .

I am so happy that increasingly medical surgeonry on large animals like giraffe is performed, and in particular these innovative medical operations that improve both knowledge base for veterinary yet also over time will be the model for other zoos with giraffe to aspire to to prevent (premature) euthanasia.
