Wolves at London Zoo?

Hello folks - it's been wonderful to read through the various posts and discussions here.
I have two questions:
1) were there wolves at the original London Zoo at Regent's park?
2) could someone kindly point me in the direction of a good resource or book on how animals were first collected and brought to London Zoo?

Many thanks and all good things

Anthony

(1) Yes, wolves have been kept in London Zoo in Regent’s Park, although there are none there currently.
(2) Numerous books have been published about the history of London Zoo. If you're interested in a list of all the species kept at the zoo, the following three volume work is extremely useful:--
List of the Vertebrated Animals Exhibited in the Gardens of the Zoological Society of London 1828 – 1927: Centenary Edition". The three volumes are:-

Vol 1 Mammals (by S. S. Flower)
Vol 2 Birds (by G. Carmichael Low)
Vol 3 Reptiles (by S. S. Flower); Amphibians (by Malcolm A. Smith); Fishes (by E.G. Boulenger).

Hey Tim, in the mammals book does it discuss the wolves? Per my knowledge Regent park didn’t have any wolves, always open to education.

The book I mentioned lists wolves at Regent's Park although, as I commented, there are none there currently.

Wolves were most recently kept in a wolf wood enclosure on the sight of the current squirrel monkey walkthrough. I don’t know the exact dates now but later maned wolves were housed there and then the monkeys.

Further back in history there were smaller cage-like enclosures with wolves where the children’s zoo is now, next to the Lubetkin penguin pool.

They were also (sometimes) visible from the main path through Regents Park just adjacent to the zoo.
