Ok I just had to post this because Im cracking up. It's so insane. Most of you will either laugh so hard you cry or be massively pissed off.

Alright so a woman visits Sunrise Side Nature Trail and Exotic Park in Michigan and tries to pet a lion who bites off the end of her finger. Now shes suing claiming its the zoo's fault for not protecting her better. She claims they let her behind scenes, they claim she ignored warnings, signs and snuck into the lions area. Either way I don't have a lot of sympathy for someone who would voluntarily try to touch an adult lion, tame or not. Its a wild animal and it might bite. Oh the logic of some. If I do something stupid its obviously someone elses fault.

-__- Sometimes I can't stand humans … Seen a lot of claims of people wanting to sue zoos for their own stupidity but this one takes the cake. If it goes to court and the judge can't clearly see that she's just trying to make some money off of her own stupid actions and having her adult daughter lie about it to back her up then I'll be sooo done.

Sorry to be blunt, but the woman is an absolute idiot and deserved everything she got. It takes a special kind of stupid to enter an area that is clearly restricted and contains possibly dangerous wildlife.

Glad everyone agrees. If she should sue anyone its her parents for giving life to some so stupid she would think lions are friends and not instilling enough common sense in her to heed warnings and recognize dangerous decisions. Come on all of our parents taught us not to pet strange dogs because they could bite what makes her think the same logic should not apply to a strange deadly animal. If she didnt get those messages from mom and dad they are the ones she should sue.

Ignorance kills!

I agree with what everyone posted here, this lady is an idiot.

With that being said, as animal caretakers, you have to plan for the idiocy of people. I'm a programmer, and it's similar in my job, I spend an enormous amount of time and effort trying to accommodate the ignorance of some people. If you watch the news report, they show pictures of this lady standing right next to the lion's fence. She was visiting with her daughter, so it might be inferred that the daughter is the one taking the photo. If that's the case, the person standing right next to the idiot lady is presumably the caretaker/worker. Granted, only so much info can be gleaned from a single still frame photo, but it doesn't look like anyone is trying to get the lady away from the cage. Unfortunately a case for negligence may actually be valid, regardless of how much of an idiot the lion petting lady is.

Obviously the type of person where nothing is ever her fault, and if something should go wrong then all she will do is point the finger (while she still has some left!)

Sometimes I wonder if anyone does this kind of stuff at zoos as a money-making scheme. Jump in the tiger pit - get injured - ???? - Profit!

Nothing shocks me anymore everything is some one else's fault, how does the world protect some one from them selves? Apart from using straight jackets which would be against their freedom of expression to be an idiot.
I always remember the incident in Howletts where a child climbed the guard fence and stuck his arm in with the gibbons who decided to keep it. Of course his parents sued and won. Of course it is all fodder for the the anti zoo lobby trying to close down the zoo, showing how dangerous they are to visitors.
