Woodside Wildlife and Falconry Park

Surprised at you kiang...the specific or subspecific scientific name should NEVER begin with a capital letter.Im not surprised that these are so "rare" as the taxon is generally not recognised today.
 
Not sure there's as few as five - maybe five plus these two? Tierpark Berlin have bred a few, so unless there've been a number of deaths I think there ought to be more than that. Interesting news though.

I was going to raise this issue myself - to my understanding there are 5 or 6 around European collections which are the offspring of the TB pair, plus the pair themselves. As such, when you visit Tierpark in a short while be sure to make a note of whether their Altai Lynx have died!

Sadly, Tango the Tiger has died

"It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing away of Tango the tiger.
Tango was Britain's oldest tiger at the age of 22 and has been at Woodside for a happy, peaceful 2 1/2 year retirement following his rescue from a European circus.
We would be really happy if you would share your pictures of Tango and celebrate his life.
RIP Tango."
 
2 Adult Siamese Crocodile have arrived to be part of the new 'Endeavour' building. This is the second UK collection to hold them after Crocodiles of the World.
 
We visited yesterday morning, and noticed a few changes from our last visit (admittedly it was a couple of years ago):

1. They have a Geoffroy's cat next to the activity barn.
2. Couple of nice eagle additions: A pair of steppe eagles and a blue Chilean eagle
3. They have two raccoon dogs in with their raccoons.
4. The Joseph Banks Conservatory is looking good, and will soon contain emperor tamarins and golden headed lion tamarins.
5. They are building a new enclosure where the lemur walk-through used to be - This will house red pandas.

We didn't see the otter pups but did spot a couple of baby Geoffoy's marmosets.
 
This is one of my favourite small collections and I'm impressed how quickly it's grown and improved. We first went about 6 years ago, back when they still did pig racing and I think there were Wallabies where the Tiger and Lynx now are.

We did the predator experience a couple of years ago so were lucky enough to get to feed Tango.

Do you know any timescales as to when the Joseph Banks Conservatory and new Red Panda enclosure will be finished? We'll be going again this year but don't know whether before or after summer would be best. Also when you say lemur walk-through, do you mean the children's playground that they let the lemurs in to once a day?

Finally did you speak with anyone about the possibility of them getting another Tiger(s). I think this was the plan when we did the predator experience but not while Tango was still there.

We didn't get a chance to speak with any of the keepers as they were quite busy. The red panda enclosure was around half built so I would say it would be summer at the earliest for completion. And yes, its being built where they used to let the lemurs come out once a day. We managed to feed Tango too, it was a great experience. I hope they do find another tiger for their collection.
