World Cup 2014

So sad. Crossed my fingers for the Oranjes and bet a bottle of 20-Euro-Wine of them.
(It was also my wish to see an European final, although with Germany as WC)

Now I think it will come to a strong fight, with very solid defending Argentinians and Messi at his best on one side, and the German teamplayers on the other side.

Well, the Brazil team went down in defeat. Now it's down to just one match - Germany vs Argentina. I'm rooting for Germany to win this one.

A deserved win, but the referee was even worse than the Brazil squad, all those mistakes, unbelievable!!!

I'm with the Germans too, I think Messi will step up though and deliver for Argentina. It'll be a close game I think.

One man cannot win a game for the whole team. It has to be a group effort. The Dallas Mavericks beating the 3-man "dream team" of the Miami Heat to win the NBA Finals more than proves the point.

That's netball you are referring to?

If you're looking for another example, look no further than the NFL (American football) The New England Patriots led by quarterback Tom Brady were expected to win Super Bowl XLII. Everyone kept talking about how good Tom Brady was and how he was going to lead his team to victory. But the New York Giants as a team defeated the Patriots 17-14.

Argentina isn't a team and it is built around outer spaced favorite - and seriously out of order / not fit - Messi (not much unlike Brazil in relation to Neymar). So, it is once more our brethren from Germany that will come out winning the World Cup.

I have always been a fan of Latin American soccer and particularly so Argentina (and here in Europe Spain … as it is). This time around although the team is full of ability, it is not a team and nowhere near what I come to expect of an Argentina side and looks weak and vulnerable.

Personally now, I would have liked to see our Dutch side play Germany and that would have been some game full of passion, drama and emotion and would also be played by both sides as an open game. Sadly it was not to be and to me a lesser side - Argentina - only playing the game for penalties and really going for an open game that would appeal to the general viewing public came through. To my mind … they did not deserve to win the game as it is and not on penalties either. Hence, my heart of soccer is now also with the German team. I was really impressed at times with them, although they had a very lackluster performance at times as well! So, Forza Germany!

Boo. I finished 7th in the office pool, and have consequently lost $10 (and not won $100). That's all that matters. :D

Would it have killed Brazil to win locally against Netherlands? And couldn't Germany score in normal time? This was a really exciting World Cup, and I hope that it's a sign of things to come in 2018.

Yes, yes, yeeeeeeeees! It's done. Star number 4 for Germany - the first European team that was able to win the World Cup in (South)America.
Good game, with Argentina as a equal contender.

And the reason Spain and Italy and England went out early was because they all basically used the teams they used in 2010.

Thanks Mike! Several weeks late, pretty simplistic - and wrong.

The England squads of 2010 and 2014 shared only 6 players: Gerrard, Rooney, Lampard, Johnson, Milner and Hart.

Meanwhile, the German squad, which didn't do too badly in Brazil, contained around a dozen players who had also gone to South Africa.

Yeah but they are not all young.
And the Africa to 6 countries is 100% legit
