Tiereliste are now listing Wroclaw as having kaama hartebeest and Hanover no longer holding, can anyone confirm?

Yup, i can.

Apparantly Wroclaw is aspiring to keep the species in Europe by importing more, and since it's (according to some sources anyway?) easier for Polish Zoos to import these animals then for a german Zoo, Hannover decided to sent their remaining animals to Wroclaw.

They have been replaced by blue wildebeest at Hannover, and I hope Wroclaw will succeed in importing some more to keep this species alive in Europe...

Since the two males at Arnhem are closely related to the Wroclaw animals there's no use to sent them over as well. Afaik they'll stay at Arnhem for the while being (they have since been introduced to their huge (multiple species) "safari" exhibit).

Hannover send its animals (1,2) in mid-may but during transport two females died (one of them was pregnant). Very sadly.

The construction of Afrykarium Oceanarium was put out to tender last Tuesday. There is public tender for new enclosure of Eurasian lynxes and wildcats as well.

Two pairs of red and white giant flying squirrels arrived from RSCC Sandwich.

Balabac mouse deer

Another Balabac mouse deer Tragulus nigricans was born few days ago bringing the number of animals in Europe back to original number imported (8). Two males left Wroclaw to start new pairs in Prague and Plzen zoos in Czech Republic. They will be joined by females hopefully next spring.

Encouraging news for a project that seemed doomed at one point - thanks for the update.

Great news! One reason of success is probably that Wroclaw keeps its mouse deer like deer, with inside stall and (little) open grassy paddock, instead of some terrarium-type exhibit.

Maybe, but they also breed off-show in large wire-netted cages. Ther seclusion might do the trick. bringing in new stock is a matter of time. They are still kept in Avilon zoo, so chances are.

Female tufted deer from Twycross also arrived.

Thanks for posting this- Very interesting!

I don't think ISIS have updated it yet, but this would leave Twycross with just two males, are Wroclaw planning a swap with the females? I really like this little species hope a few more collections go into them.

Twycross had 1.2 and the young female left leaving 1.1 in Twycross. Wroclaw female will be joined by a male when available elsewhere. Actually the young born in Twycross this year was meant to be a male, but in fact was a female.

New exposition in Sahara House was settled by:
  • Cairo spiny mice Acomys cahirinus
  • pale gerbils Gerbillus perpallidus
  • fat-tailed gerbils Pachyuromys duprasi

  • deathstalker Leiurus quinquestriatus
    [*]four-striped grass mice Rhabdomys pumilio
[*]star finch Neochmia ruficauda (in exposition of jerboa's)

Last two species will be replaced with
  • Barbary striped grass mice Lemniscomys barbarius
