Zoo Wroclaw Wroclaw zoo news

It will house our couple of lynxes that spent last few years at our zoo. According to ISIS we have 1.1 Lynx lynx lynx and 1.2 Lynx lynx. I don't know which are parents and which are offsprings. The wildcat 1.0 which arrived from Gdansk is Felis silvestris silvestris.

Any tidings on current plans with these?
 
Blue-throated macaw Ara glaucogularis lives in our Aviary. Maybe one day he will get a female... His photo you can see at the gallery here :). I'm not sure if I saw yet keeled box turtle Cuora/Pyxidea mouhotii at exposition but I'll check it as soon as possible (tomorrow or on Monday) and bring some photos.
 
Well, I enlisted wrongly some rodents in Sahara House. There are:
- Rhabdomys dilectus not R. pumilio
- Gerbilius campestris not G. perpallidus
- Acomys dimidiatus not A. cahirinus
My fault.

Appears to of been a change of plan regarding the Indian Rhinos... Wroclaw's website now reports that they will recieve two males and not the 1:1 they originally planned for. The exhibit should be completed and the Rhino's arrive in Autumn 2012

Two males will arrive because it's better to grow up the same gender cubs. Wen they'll become adult, one of them will be swapped.
 
new species of reptiles appeared:
- mangrove monitor Varanus indicus
- emerald tree monitor Varanus prasinus
- blue-spotted tree monitor Varanus macraei
- black marsh turtle Siebenrockiellia crassicollis
 
last weeks new animals arrived:
1.0 northern plains gray langur Semnopithecus entellus
1.1 black giant squirrel Ratufa bicolor
1.3? common gundi Ctenodactylus gundi
1.1? long-eared hedgehog Hemiechinus auritus - they live together with fennecs
Late spring there was also 1 blesbock Damaliscus pygargus visible at the big savannah display, it had to accompany caama, now it disappeared (as well as plaque)
0.1 fossa will leave our zoo
 
Any idea where the black giant squirrels came from?

Amazing animals, the whole family of Ratufa, but rare in European Zoos (the black ones aren't listed at all on Zootierliste).
 
Now I know some answers to your questions:
- hedgehogs are 2.2 and arrived from Zoo Erfurt
- giant squirrels arrived from Herne, Belgium
There are also some new species:
- brownbanded bamboo sharks Chilosyllium punctatum and 0.1 Siamese fireback Lophura diardi from Antwerp
- Quince monitors Varanus melinus, Kimberley rock monitors Varanus glauerti, Balkan green lizards Lacerta trilineata? from Cracow Aquarium
- Chelodina siebenrocki
- 5 pairs of Johnson chamaeleos from Natuurhulpcentrum in Opglabeek, Belgium
- 1.0 red river hog from Duisburg
- 0.1 two-toed sloth from Hannover

there are also some departures:
- 0.1 Brazilian tapir Tapirus terrestris to Zoo Guerno, France
- 1.1 Philippine mouse deers Tragulus nigricans to Antwerp
- all servals Leptailurus serval and young Victoria crowned pigeon Goura victoria to Herne
- 1.1 scimitar-horned oryxes Oryx dammah to Taman Safari, Indonesia
 
Balabac mouse deer no.10 (8 reared to adulthood until now) was born in Wroclaw ZOO a couple of days ago. So, the total status is 11 animals 2.2.1 at Wroclaw, 1.1 in each Prague, Plzen and Antwerp.

Sorry, to get back to 2010. Any idea which giraffe this was.
As far as I now Wroclaw maintained only hybrids (males Selim, Safi und female Barborka).

Both the males mentioned were transferred to Katowice / Chorzowie in June 2009. This left only the female Barborka ...

Do you know what happened to her and any idea on the Rothschild's individual?
 
I think Basia has been sent to Poznań (Basia it's probably diminutive form of Barborka). In "Zoo story" (serial about ZOO Wrocław) was transport of giraffe called Basia. They said she is the last Bringo giraffe in zoo and she will join to herd of her subspecies in Poznań.
