Zoo Wroclaw Wroclaw zoo news

Young male okapi from Frankfurt arrived today to Wrocław. It is first ever okapi in Poland. Next two weeks should came another male from Antwerpen.
 
Second okapi arrived today to Wrocław. 1,5 years old male Nkosi came from Antwerpen.
 
I feel so pitty and Sorry for the poor hippos-loosing now their comfortbale outdoor enclosure This is the best example for a new xehibit dosen't has to be better than an old one...So the present hippo exhibit in the historic pachyderm house from 1888 offers more comfort to the hippos than the year round indoor exhibit in the Afrykarium.Yes, it is important to show them in a phantaic looking exhibit for the visitors. Strange, no zoodirector from the old times would do such a shame thing-so it shouldn't take too long, also elephants and giraffes are being kept year round indoors.Why not ?

Just so you know, the roof over the hippo area in the Afrykarium can be opened to the elements, so will essentially be outdoors during warm weather.
 
So if you keep elephants and giraffes indoors with a roof, which can be opened in summer times, thats okay ? Or is there diffrence between them and hippos ? I bet, if a zoo would do the same with the beloved elephants, we had a lot of critism and protest here,wouldn't you agree ?An Outdoor exhibit means more than sunlight and fresh air.

Thats defenitely not the same.
 
Hippos enclosure in Africarium will be bigger than current indoor plus outdoor hippos enclosure in old elephant house. But still, it is the most doubtful part of the Africarium.

More doubtful than Caribbean manatees in the "Congo" rainforest section?
 
Manatees tank is 370 square meters and more than 4 meters depth. Is it inappropriate in your oppinion?

Only in its Zoogeograhical inaccuracy.....

I actually think both the manatee and hippo exhibits are going to be great parts of a really extraordinary and impressive complex. The scale of this building is almost incomprehensible.
 
There is a problem with surplus Caribbean manatees in european zoos. In this situation acquisition of african manatees from the wild would be incomprehensible. On the other hand Zoo Wroclaw tried to do it, but without success.

I agree with you-fortunately, the imporation of african manatees has failed:)

Size can't replace the comfort of an outdoor enclosure...;)
