Zoo Wroclaw Wroclaw zoo news

Common hippo. Mother is Rumba (born in Wrocław) father is Valecek (born in Praha).

Wroclaw's terrarium today reports the successful breeding of Haitian Giant Galliwasp (Celestus warreni) and Mountain Chicken Frog (Leptodactylus fallax).
It isn't clear from the brief report on their FB page how many frogs have been bred: there's a photo showing two youngsters which still have tails but have developed all 4 limbs.

More terrarium news:
Today was the official opening of the "Dragons of Indonesia" pavilion for 4 species of monitor lizard, including Komodo Dragons.
Five Roti Island Snake-necked Turtles have hatched.
Yesterday, the zoo's biggest African Spurred Tortoise (38 kg) was moved to the Afrykarium to give it much more space.

Is this a new wing in the old terrarium building or is it seperate. It looks good. They should give the turtles more room next.

The four species of monitor on display in the new pavilion are: Papuan, emerald, mangrove and Komodo Dragons.

I would also like to know where this is, it looks very impressive.

this article - Dragon's pen in Wroclaw Zoo | www.wroclaw.pl - says:
The pavilion is located in the reptile building and is accessible to people with disabilities.

...

The new pavilion provides two 60-sqm pens to match their growing needs. Their new abode is located in a converted storage area. The terrarium has also been provided with a new entrance and a ramp for disabled visitors, who can now access the main exhibition area on the ground floor of the building.

...

The new premises also provide lodgings to other large dragon species, including Papauan monitors, and several smaller monitor species such as black and emerald monitors. You can watch the Komodo dragons and their secret life from the nearest café.

The terrarium reports recent breedings of the following species:

Ocellated Skink Chalcides ocellatus
Frilled Lizard Chlamydosaurus kingii
Koch's Day Gecko Phelsuma (madagascarinsis) kochi
Saban Anole Anolis sabanus
Dominican Anole Anolis oculatus winstonorum
Western Bearded Anole Anolis barbatus
Dumeril's Boa Acrantophis dumerili
Pine Snake Pituophis melanoleucus

In plans for this year are: snow leopard and clouded leopard exhibits (at former polar bears enclosure and two neighboring enclosures). Than renovation of birdhouse which will be transfered into free-flight hall. In plans is also renovation of crocodile house and reconstruction it into pygmy hippo house.Next is transformation of old lion house into educational building with some exhibits probably for invasive species. And still new species for Afrykarium, mainly fishes and birds.

How are these plan coming along. Especialy the snow leopard / clouded leopard enclosure ?

There is slight delay, small problems with project. It should be ready next spring/summer.

Wrocław Zoo received from Toronto two species of frogs rather uncommon in european collections: Lemur leaf frog (Hylomantis or Agalychnis lemur) and Solomon Island eyelash frog (Ceratobatrachus or Cornufer guentheri).

I will be going to Wroclaw Zoo on Sunday afternoon and Monday, I have been before a couple of years ago so I sort of know the zoo, but I am particularly interested in seeing the Bear Cuscus which is new since my last visit, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is held on show and where in the zoo it is held. Thanks. :)

Earlier this year, the Bear Cuscus were to be seen in the (wonderful) Monkey House; this is also where you will see (or, more likely, not see) the Echidna and the Giant Flying Squirrel. When I visited at Easter time, the Echidna were having a daily camomile bath; if you can find out at what time this is due, you will have a chance of seeing the zoo's monotremes.

Pair of Bear Cuscus is still in Monkey House (others three are behind the scenes). They are usually very active. Echidnas have bath only on Wednesdays so is hard to see them. New for you should be Komodo Dragons enclosure in Terrarium House (feeding time for Komodos is Monday 1:00 PM). There is also a lot of other new species in Terrarium. Bird House is closed (roof renovation) but you’ll find several new bird species in Afrykarium.
