Having visited the Yorkshire Wildlife Park not long after it first opened, I wish it all the best. I know it has some very big and ambitious plans and I look forward to some of these coming to fruition. It certainly has the potential to become a very important collection. Yorkshire is a very big county very poorly served by zoos (as indeed is the whole north-east of England). The county does have a host of very good bird gardens and several bird-of-prey centres and public aquariums, but, apart from the YWP, the only other general animal collection is Flamingo Land way over to the east, which, in my opinion, loses much of its credibility by being a theme-park-cum-zoo (zoos and theme parks should not be combined). I hope that the Yorkshire Wildlife Park can fulfil its promise.
