living just up the road from the park I am really looking forward to the opening and hope it will be a success. Looking through the web site there are plenty of photo's of the "big" draws - lemur walk, hunting dogs etc... which I'm looking forward to seeing.
I like geographical collections and displays and as such, have no problem with meerkats being displayed at the park to tie in with the African Plains exhibit. Other smaller, more common species could be displayed in the same way I'm sure.
There didn't seem to be that many species mentioned in the website so it will be interesting to see what other displays they have, such as aviaries etc...No mention of reptiles/invertabrates either.
After years of having to make do with local farm parks and small mix and match collections it finally looks like this area is going to get a decent wildlife park.
 
Dogs

I work there on a course and i know where the dogs are coming form


the hunting dogs are coming form knowsley safari the same place where they got the ankole cattle form
 
i am doing a college course there and they got 3 reptiles yesterday a bearded dragon a corn snake and a boa constrictor
 
they are looking at also getting rhinosaurus a hippopotamus and giraffes but hey are not getting elephants or gorillas
 
I guess the owner must know a few people if they can get lions and painted dogs that early on in the collection :p
Where are the lions coming from?
Edit: If they were to get hippo then why would they only get one...?
 
Did they work for Woburn safari park then?

I'm not too fussed about lions personally - but there is no doubting the fact that they are a huge draw for the average punter, so as far as I'm concerned that is good news. I wonder if they might be coming from Knowsley as well perhaps, as safari parks often have surplus lions?

The rhino and hippo plans sound a bit ambitious, but who knows how far ahead they're looking. Ben Mee wants similarly big animals at Dartmoor, but that is very much a long-term ambition. Whatever happens I'm definitly excited!!! :D
