I know this isn't zoo/animal related at all but the Zoo Café exists for a reason I guess. I'm a tad late on this one but it's that time of year again, I have three questions for you:
  1. What were your favorite movies of last year?

Here are my answers:

What about them do you dislike @Onychorhynchus coronatus?

Everything pretty much.

I think what Scorcese said is spot on that they aren't really cinema or an art form but closer to theme parks and money making franchises, I find the narratives mediocre, uninspired and boring , I mean what do they say about the human condition ?

I thought that Terry Gilliam's on the "black panther" movie were both funny and brutally honest “I hated 'Black Panther. ' It makes me crazy. ... But I just I hated that movie, partly because the media were going on about the importance of bull****.”

Maybe its just me though, I prefer watching either documentary films or world cinema and Criterion collection type movies rather than Hollywood blockbusters, each to their own I guess.

But I mean it's not like every movie has to be some golden piece of artwork. Personally I watch movies to escape reality and although not every unrealistic movie is great, I find a lot of them to be quite pleasing. I look at it as a 2 hour vacation.

Yes I do too, movies are about escapism afterall, but after watching a movie I want to feel like it has moved me / shocked me in some way or made me think about something bigger than myself / some wider reality.

The one time I tried to watch a Marvel movie with my significant others family ("captain America") I just ended up feeling irritated and thinking "what the f*** is this s*** even about".

I didn't even finish watching the film actually, I had a cigarette break and ended up going and doing something else.

2020 brought a couple movies that I got excited for, unfortunately due to the pandemic I didn't get to see many in the cinema, only one, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Which was honestly quite good and enjoyable after all the memes it spawned.

So here's my list for my favorite three.

Favorite 2020 movies
  1. Project Power
  2. Sonic the Hedgehog
  3. The New Mutants

Which Captain America? That makes a big difference. The First Avenger is stupid. Winter Soldier and Civil War are great movies but the latter would be hard to understand if you hadn't seen the other Marvel films.

I only saw two mew movies this year, Onward and Wonder Woman 1984. Onward was good and WW84 existed.

I don't know, it was one set during WW2 about Nazis if I remember correctly, as I said I didn't watch the entire film as I just didn't like it.

I don't really like films about super heros in spandex suits taking on the Third reich.

I prefer films about true real life heros who fought the Nazis or fascists like the original "Operation daybreak" (or its remake "Operation anthropoid") about the Czech partisans Gabcik and Kubis or another good one of this genre would be "Defiance" about the Jewish partisan Bielski in Belo Russia or "Army of shadows" about the French resistance during WW2.

I actually enjoy watching crappy movies and making fun of them. My sister and I finished “Avatar: The Last Airbender” so we’re going to watch the movie. :D

Here’s my list though
Favorite 2020 Movies
  1. The Croods: A New Age (The original Croods was criminally underrated.)
  2. Onward
  3. Tenet
  4. Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn
Haven’t watched anything else.
Least Favorite 2020 Movies

I didn’t really see any that I didn’t like.

Yeah, that's the dumb one.

New I hate all of the marvel type superhero films with a passion.
I'm gonna have to agree with O.C. on this one. I don't quite get them, but maybe its just my own bias against superheroes since I Love star wars.
Movies that I Enjoyed this Year.
A Life on Our planet: This was Moving for sure, it's only on Netflix though.

Soul:
A Pixar movie that I also thought was great except It's definitely not perfect.

And thats it for my favorite new movies this year, I saw some others that I can't recall at the Moment.

I mostly watched older Documentaries and TV shows such as This is Us and The Mandalorian, but those I guess don't count.

I'm Looking forward to not any new films but just to get back to School, Go to Zoos, and other engaging outdoor activities that I'm quite looking forward too (hopefully).

My favorite films of the year (as it was):

5. One Night in Miami
4. News of the World
3. The Gentlemen
2. Greenland
1. The Call of the Wild (loved it).

The one I’ve yet to see, but really want to:

Greyhound.

2021:

Top Gun: Maverick
A Quiet Place Part II
Candyman

My favourite of 2020 was definitely "Weathering With You" by Makoto Shinkai.
iu

This guy knows how to write and direct a good animated movie, it was beautiful, funny, and emotional. I watched it subtitled, unsure if there is a dubbed version if anyone is interested.

  1. What were your favorite movies of last year? I cannot remember any of the 2020 movies I've watched. Which might say a lot about their quality & my cinematic opinion. Or maybe I'm beginning to get old and forgetful...
  2. What were your least favorite movies of last year? Apparently, all and none...
  3. What 2021 movies are you most excited for? None.

Favorite Movie of 2020: Project Power, which feels to me like a far more realistic (if still technically unrealistic) take on superpowers. Compelling characters, good action scenes, and an interesting premise and setting.

Least Favorite Movie of 2020: Wonder Woman 1984, which quickly joined the ranks of DC and Marvel films where the plot was cliche and yet also convoluted, the action scenes were overdone, and the characters were bland. Also Chris Pine being in another dude's body was weird and unnecessary.

I'm also good with this description:
WW84 existed.

Most Anticipated Movie of 2021: The new Dune film coming out in October, which looks to have a great cast and the director of Blade Runner 2049 behind it.
