Your Favorite Song

Today we have lost Brian Wilson, one of the greatest musicians who has ever lived.

There are music greats. There are music legends. And then there is Brian Wilson, who stands almost unrivalled.

Brian was an outstanding songwriter, producer, and vocalist, the like of which we will never see again. His music redefined what pop music could be, with lush symphonies and emotional depth that continue to influence musicians to this day.

If you haven’t already, take this as an opportunity to listen to Pet Sounds. Not only is it one of the greatest albums ever created, it was a milestone in the history of popular music, as evident today as it was on the day it was first released.

Rest in Peace Brian. You will never be forgotten.

Oh no!! Oh man that sucks. He was incredible (and his battle for his sanity too, he fought hard for, as many genius minds have to fight to keep). Rest in peace Brian; Pet Sounds what an album!

Honestly I think my favourite song ever is probably Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra. Pretty boring answer but it's just great.

Great song. Livin' Thing, Don't Bring Me Down, Strange Magic, Showdown, Telephone Line, and Turned To Stone great by them too.

Or:
Hungry Like The Wolf (Duran Duran)

Horse With No Name (America)

Wild Horses (Rolling Stones)

Like these 3 too (gold coincidence we like a fair number of songs with animals in the names hey. Well lot of songs with animal name in funnily enough).

Anyone else like (Sting &) The Police, Bob Marley, Polly Jean (PJ) Harvey, The Cars, T Rex, Joan Armatrading, Talking Heads, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Moody Beach, Velvet Underground, The Clash?

You Only Live Once - The Strokes (if had to name a favourite song, very hard to name 1 but).

Loved the Beach Boys, every song was a summer song to me. Brian Wilson was a very troubled man,in more ways than one, like alot of geniuses, he had his demons.

Quite like the Velvet Underground, infact I'm fortunate to own all of their LP's. I don't own any Talking Heads records. However, the film of their 1983 concert, called Stop Making Sense, is one of my favorite live recordings. I don't have a favorite song, I have lots of favorite songs.

So cool you have all Velvet's LP's too; havent ever seen the footage of TH's '83 SMS concert, will check out thanks to your recommend'.

Way too many to mention (in all genres), so I’ll go with drive songs and show my age a bit:

Tom Sawyer - Rush
Paradise City - Guns n Roses
Crazy Train - Ozzie Osbourne
No More Tears (remix) - The Weeknd and Ariana Grande
Whiskey in the Jar - Metallica’s version
It’s a Long Way to the Top - AC/DC
Sabotage - Beastie Boys
Lose Yourself - Eminem
L’Amour Toujours - Gigi D’Agostino
Lit Up - Buckcherry
Slipping Away - Moby and Mylene Farmer
Immigrant Song - Led Zepplin

and Black - Pearl Jam

and In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins

Anything by Elvis Presley (especially Burning Love with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), Olivia Newton-John, Nelly Furtado, Bryan Adams, and U2.

Indeed "Pet Sounds" is a great record. Moreover, it is an appropriate record for ZooChat, as the album cover features a photograph that was taken in San Diego Zoo.

With (like all eras '60s onwards, some great stuff from before that especially blues, rockabilly and rhythm blues too) 1970s music, think Bowie, T-Rex, 'Zeppelin, Lou Reed, Bob Marley, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, The Clash, Television, Roxy Music, Steely Dan, Donna Summers, Rolling Stones (their '70s stuff was great too), New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Blondie, Elton John, The Police (well real start of their career) The Cars, Linda Ronstadt, The Damned and Split Enz would be personal favourites from that era most probably if had to catergorise.

ELO were so cool though as were so many others:

always thought would be gold if a zoo used the line 'take a walk on the wild side' from Lou Reed's 1971 big hit (but of course won't because of the mature audience content of the song) great song (well 'the jury was back in' with that verdict about it nearly 55 years ago, but we all have our own opinion). Was one of first songs to acknowledge non binary people and people working in certain professions:

With regards to non binary people, the song Lola by the Kinks in 1970 was probably the first. Glad you mentioned Led Zeppelin and the Stones.

Oh yeah true that was 1970 released (thought was few years later fsr). Really great song (along with Sunny Afternoon and Waterloo Sunset would be one of personal favourites by them).

Couldn't have put it better myself. I would also recommend for those who have listened to pet sounds, try out Sunflower, Holland and the SMiLE sessions! Enjoy the beautiful rabbit hole of The Beach Boys everybody!!!!

Although, I have lots of favourite songs, my favourite one these last few days ,is " mama I'm coming home " by Ossie Osborne, seems rather apt, considering !
Also been listening to some Sabbath/Ozzy recently, RIP.

War Pigs, Snowblind, The Wizard, and No More Tears probably been my recent favourites.

Ozzy was a superb musician but also he was inadvertently one of the funniest men to ever live.

Rest in peace, legend.

Well said man. He was a legend. Black Sabbath and his solo career with different musicians made really amazing music (and he was blue-ribbon gold with his humour and personality). Will be very missed.

I really need to give black sabbath a proper listen, because given my age he was always that guy from the osbournes who was very funny!
