ZSL London Zoo Your ideas for spare land at London Zoo

Johnstoni, I think it's a bit misleading to say "Meet the Monkeys now restricts the inhabitants from using the live trees in the enclosures." There are lots of quite tall trees within the enclosure which they can climb to the top – it's just the ones near the perimeter which have wire necklaces to stop them getting high enough to leap off, over and out.

Yes, there is an understorey of the occasional smaller tree and of course a dense covering of bushes, which is great, don't get me wrong, but the mature trees under which this is all situated were at first accessible to the inhabitants before the escape, but now aren't. My point is that it is a shame for canopy species not to be able to use the canopy in their enclosure.

There are four reindeer in the paddock and I am told they will stay on after Christmas. I don't know about "permanent" though. They are all female... so I'm not sure which one is Rudolph! You can see them from the road side but so far public access via the path to the left of the otter house has been closed so you can't get close to them at the moment – don't know if that will change after the 20th.

Could be any of them - as any QI fan knows, only female reindeer have antlers in late December, so as Rudolph, Donner, Blitzen et al. are always shown with antlers they must all be female! :D

A piece of trivia which popped up in the latest ZSL magazine, who's been watching QI I thought!

Too small but maybe something like snowy owl and arctic fox or even wolverine. Would fit into the general theme of the area which seems to be cute and cuddly.

That's the first time I've heard of Wolverines described as cute and cuddly! I agree they'd make a good exhibit though.
