Chester Zoo Your Personal Vision for Chester

id like to see the zebra, giraffe, ostrich, Sitatunga, gemsbok, oryx and maybe the warthog and mongoose in one big african savanah exhibit with a raised walkway for visitors to get eye level with the giraffe and be able to see all of the animals from both ground and tree level. Id also like to see the chimps have a new exhibit maybe extend the existing enclosure up to the arara lawn or just a new exhibit alltogether. id also like to see more big cats maybe amur leopards and lynx maybe even some cougar together with a few of the larger bear species and eagles in a north america section. il add some more later just wondered what you all thought so far

i doubt they will replace the chimp enclosure, its had chimps sine the 30s' or 40s', Bongorob or anyone, can you conferm this

The current chimp group is confirmed to be moving into "Heart of Africa" but whether this is all animal or just pure subspecies am not sure.

i had heard lots about it but had no idea where it was going to be glad i found that out thanks Taun. what exactly is the layout for heart of africa? does anybody know?

Nobody knows yet (apart from the people at the top at Chester). Planning permission is submitted later this year and can be viewed online.

Lee, it might be worth having a look at the Heart of Africa thread for more information

With my personal vision of Chester it would require a lot of work, and I’m not sure whether all of it is plausible or impossible.

I would redo the Warthog enclosure by removing the mongooses and adding a dik-dik or something of that size. Also I would move the Oryxs next door and merge the Zebras and adding Wildebeest. The wetland aviary would stay the same but I would add more pelicans in. I would get rid of the new conservation golf and add a small walkthrough monkey enclosure including Goeldi monkey (Callimico goeldii), Geoffroys marmoset (Callithrix geoffroyi), Golden Lion Tamarins (Leontopthecus rosalia) and Golden-headed Lion Tamarins (Leontopithecus chrysomelas). With Monkey Island I would remove the Spider Monkeys and add Drills (Mandrillus leucophaeus). I’d leave the onagers and the cheetahs, but I would turn the picnic lawn where the coatis used to be into a sloth enclosure. I would leave the Okapi/Giraffe house and that area up to the Tropical Realm which I would knock down and have most of the current species there, get rid of the hermit crabs and add the other species of Tuatara (Sphenodon Guntheri), Tokay geckos (Gekko gecko), and upstairs area which would hold invertebrate and amphibians such as Mountain Chicken Frog (Leptodactylus Fallax), Giant Tiger Snails (larger ones)(Achatina Achatina) and so on I would like it to hold another 2 species of crocodile the Saltwater and the Cuban. I would keep the free-flying birds and the hornbills and the smaller birds than are in the top floor area. (See Plan) Where the lone Babirusa is I would remove that animal from the collection and replace it with Vietnam Warty Pig (Sus Bucculentus). With the lemurs I would move the Ruffed Lemurs onto Lemur Islands and move off some off the Ring Tailed into different zoos. To replace the Ruffed Lemurs that have moved I would Bring in Silky Sifakas (Propithecus candidus) and Indri (Indri Indri). With RoRA I would redo the Bornean Orangutan House and reopen it to the public, and link it in with RoRA (see RoRA plan), With the old Babirusa House I would move the Dwarf Congo Buffalo and place Water Buffalo (Syncerus caffer). Inside the long narrow stretch (not sure how narrow it is can’t see from the map so this may not work.) I would add Fishing Cats, Clouded Leopards and other small cats. With the area outside Spirit of the Jaguar I would want to but the Clouded Leopards there if the do not fit inside the other planned area. I would extend the small aviaries near the Arara lodge and hold Victoria crowned Pigeons. I would give more light inside the aquarium and leave it as it is. With the sealions swap the species from Californian to Patagonian. I would leave the Serval/Bush dog area alone but move in the opposite sex Serval into the enclosure to breed. Instead of the Philipine Spotted Dear which will be moved into the old wallaby enclosure and move the emus, I would but in Gray Wolves (Canis Lupus) and behind the Elephant house (if there is enough room maybe expand into the car park if neccesiary) place a Wolverine Enclosure.

Think that is it. If I have any changes expect to know about it.

Missed off the RoRA plan.

The lines are the path, and imagine the enclosure is below but the offshow area is on the far end. It is a raised viewing platform.

Sorry it's basic :( best i could do now
