Chester Zoo Your Personal Vision for Chester

Thanks Rob, in the past ive saw something move very quickly there but never been able to work out what it was

That would be the young babirusa.

Also haz_cat, Gorillas on the ring tailed lemur island are you kidding?

It would need a lot of work and perhaps an elevated path over it, but I think it would be the best place in the current zoo to have gorillas- I want them in the forest area!

Oh yes, now I will carry on with my plan:
- Old Rhino house becomes African House, with Aardvarks, Warthogs and Banded Mongoose, Yellow Mongoose (and something to mix them with- any ideas?), and maybe the meerkats. There will also be other exhibits for birds and reptiles.

Yes we all want to see gorillas exhibited properly but what your suggesting I wouldn't consider anything bugger than a Gibbon should be placed there due to the footprint of the area.

I've finally done my map of my project! :)

A couple things that may need explaining;
- Galapagos House contains indoor and outdoor areas for tortoises and an aviary for finches.
- Australia House contains a koala exhibit, wombat exhibit and kookaburra aviary. All with indoor and outdoor access.
- Oceania area contains the zoo's kangaroos, wallabies, cassowaries, emus, numbats, keas and tuataras.

Feedback will be appreciated and i'll answer any questions regarding my plan and maps.

the links are broke!, can you post them again

im gonna re-do my plan.

because of the mud problem of the asian plains, the ongar, camel and cheetah eclosures are combined for Indian rhino and Barashingua, while nilgai, axis and sabar deer join the blackbuck and brow antlered deer in the asian plains (would there be room for gaur aswell?).

Duickers added to the okapi area and the condor cliffs and butterfly are expanded into the car park for gorillas and colobus. the current giraffe area becomes a mixed enclosure for Congo buffalo and the bongo, with de brazza monkeys and owl faced monkeys
tropical world now only has african stuff

the current buffalo area is re-developed for pygmy hippo, while philipene deer are added to the pig area, with fishing cats close by and tamraw on the lemur island, and a crocodile house with the phili crocs in

the rotra play are becomes anoa area, with clouded leopard and sun bear nerby.

the island closest to mini monkeys becomes a dhole enclosure, with Asha and Asoka where the philipine deer and under the bat bridge

the spirit of the jaguar is moved to behind the oryx padoock, with barids tapir and mara occuping the oryx pen. and Vicunga, mountain tapirs with rhea in the current rhea pen.

several aviarys will be in the gemsbok paddock and sitatunga paddock. there will be a larger condor area and larger flamingo lake

will post more later

I will redo my vision:
Old Red Lechwe exhibit next to Meerkats is once again Red Lechwe but with the Roan Antelope.
Children's Fun Ark (and Picnic Lawn) is new exhibit for Indian rhinos.
Onagers move in with Blackbuck and Brow-antlered Deer.
Przewalski's Wild Horses move in with Bactrian Camels.
Exhibits for Red Lechwe, Roan Antelope and Wild Horse areas become Gorilla Island.
'Conservation Golf' is removed and becomes Picnic Lawn.
Sealions and Penguins are moved to area behind Scimitar-Horned Oryx.
Sealions and Penguins previous area are completely redone for new Tiger exhibit.
Tiger exhibit becomes new and improved Tropical Realm.
Tropical Realm becomes 'African Monkey House' with Mandrills and New indoor accomodation for the Chimps as only a small part of it...
Monkey Islands becomes Madagascar House and Island with Ring-Tailed lemurs, Ruffed Lemurs and more...
Lemur Island becomes the 'Africa House' with Warthogs and Banded Mongoose, Ground Squirrels and Yellow Mongoose, Aardvarks, and a small picnic lawn, as well as reptiles and birds.
the old coati area is the new home for red pandas, the cranes move to the west Zoo, and the Rare Parrot breeding centre joins on to the new tropical realm. The Bongos, cranes, Red Pandas, and otter enclosures (as well as the picnic lawn) are the new giraffe house. The old giraffe house, secret world of the okapi and warty Pig/Buffallo house merge into one with the Warty Pigs moving in with the Phillipine spotted deer.
This new house is home to Bongo, Okapi, Buffalo (A smaller group), Red River Hogs, and Zebra Duikers. The old area for the Red River hogs and Yellow Mongoose becomes part of the african monkey house. The monkeys from Monkey Islands move into various locations throughout the zoo. The Campbell's Guenons and Mandrills move to the 'African Monkey house along with a small group of Diana Monkeys, and perhaps a small group of De Brazza's Monkeys. The Sulawesi Crested macaques move into to Realm of the Red ape, and the Spider Monkeys and Lion-Tailed Macaques move into the Ruffed Lemur and Aloatran Gentle Lemur islands.

Oh, and I forgot. The old rhino house becomes a new area for Baboons.
The 'Ape Around' Play Area is expanded onto the picnic lawn to make a new fun ark.

I'd build new exhibits for the old enclosures such as:

-tigers
-lions
-chimps
-sea lions
but theme them all

and i'd get new exciting animals like bonobos, gorillas, koalas and in a lkong term goal GIANT PANDAS.

what do people think of mine so far

Just a few problems, as there is a public footpath running through the zoo some of your plans are not achievable.

And moving the Spirit of the Jaguar?

Other than that its much better thought out than the last few. ;)

by the way, the rhino wont have ascess to asian plains, i insist on moving SOTJ into the south america area

I liked the idea of pygmy hippo moving into the buffalo area, they'd look great next to the canal under the trees.

I will make a few changes to my vision:
- Gemsbok and Zebra swap exhibits. Oryx move in with Zebra.
- Old Oryx Exhibit becomes new indoor penguin exhibit, based on 'Penguinario' from Loro Parque, Tenerife.
- The area I originally wanted to be for penguins is now the new aquarium. The old one is demolished and becomes an exhibit for malayan tapir.
- Bush Dogs move to lawn outside SOTJ, an exhibit for giant anteaters is also created on that lawn.
- Colombian Black Spider Monkeys move onto the island formerly home to the young babirusa, who has been removed from the collection. Also moving onto the island are pudu. Buffy-Headed Capuchins move into the island which I originally planned to be for the spider monkeys.
- servals move into the old warthog/mongoose area.
- A new path is build leading to the area where the second group of phillipine spotted deer were. That area is home to Koala and Kookaburas. Cassowary move into the old serval area, kangaroos move into the old pudu area.
- The Old Kangaroo and Cassowarry areas are merged for Emus and Wallabies. The old bush dog/mongoose area is expanded and is home to Wombats.
