Your Top 10 Zoos

Your 13 and have visited all those zoos..? Is one of your parents a pilot perhaps..?

No I haven't personally visited all of those zoos and perhaps it isn't right for my claim to put them as my top ten, Those are the ones I personally want to visit, didn't mean to brag, sorry

dragon, can I ask what makes Dublin zoo so attractive? I haven't visited it yet either, but from what I've seen it strikes me as good but not one of the world's best?

I'm not sure they'd make my top 20 for places in the UK with either the word 'monkey' or 'west' in their names, for that matter. It just goes to show that the world is full of different opinions. Although some I do find hard to understand!

Actually I would put the Pittsburgh Zoo at #7, move the rest down. Not a very big zoo, but mostly solid to good exhibits from what I recall with most of the top animals that people expect to see at a zoo.

Personally I really dont like Pittsburgh. The collection is average as are most of the exhibits and the Primate House is god awful.

Well I went during the summer, so the gorillas were mostly outside in very nice exhibit. The polar bear exhibit is very good, as are most of the african animals exhibits. The tiger exhibit was good as well. Added bonus for the aquarium.

I'm not saying it's great, but I haven't been to enough zoo's recently(so I can fairly judge) to have a great deal of contenders for my top 10. I may have the opportunity to go to the Bronx, Omaha, Denver, and Philadelphia zoo's within the next few months, then I'll have a stronger list.

My 10

1: Birdland (well they do pay me :D)
2: Burgers
3: Rotterdam
4: Chester
5: Berlin
6: West Midlands Safari Park
7: Whipsnade
8: Cotswold Wildlife Park
9: Avifauna
10: Colchester

trying to make a top 10 of places i have visited wasnt as easy as i thought, so many things affect my view of a place; sunny day, friendly staff, was i working, value for money, did my camera steam up and break in tropical house (central park), seeing something new, low expectations, high expectations!

1st Doue , Why? Early morning drive along Loire River valley, lovely sunny day, easily able to park car in shade, gate staff were smiling! even seemed happy to be there and thats all before getting in. The zoo doesnt have a huge numbers of species or lots of rarities having only 70 or so species. With most of these eep/eaza studbook animals many are increasingly common in european zoos if not the wild. Should be adding photos after the bank holiday to show some of my reasons why.

Burger
Jurong
Chester
Cologne
Rotterdam
London
Walsrode
Bronx
Beauval

I guess I am more impressed by the big ones, but visited lots of other places and had more enjoyable experience at some of the smaller ones. Biggest 'big' zoo disappointment was probably Singapore.
