Dierenpark Zie-ZOO Zie-Zoo, a new Dutch Zoo

Last week a new zoo opened it gates for the public : Zie Zoo. Started as a hobby it has grown to a complete zoo an it already was open over a number of years but because they didn't have an official zoo-licence the number of days open a year was limited. Now they have their licence ans are open every day.
Because I wanted to see the result my wife and I went today to Volkel a little village near 's Herthogenbosch. To be honest, we were dissapointed.
The collection they have is great, several of their species can be seen only very rarely in Dutch or even European zoos but the enclosures didn't look great, at least, thats my opinion.
Also, its build much to much close together and a real 'park'-feeling came not up. Also some very small enclosures, unlogical animal combinations and much heavy wire-mesh !
Hopefully improvments will be archived in the time coming !
As soon as they have their own place in the Gallery - I already asked the moderator - I will up-load some photos.
 
Clouded leopard, American black bear, tayra, striped hyena among others but I will report later on more details.
 
During my last visit last weekend the Clouded leopards were closed-in in their old indoor enclosure but now they have been moved to their new, larger enclosure. To get used to it, they now have only acces to the new indoor area but soon they will also have acces to the much larger out-door enclosure ( photos in the Gallery ).
 
2 new enclosures were added on the Reptile-attic, one with Elephant shrews and one with Kowari's :).
 
Some intresting births at Zie-Zoo :
2 Asian small-clawed otters
a European eagle owl
a number of Giant millipedes
 
Zie-Zoo is a small zoo in Volkel which houses quite a few species seldomly seen in Dutch (and European) zoos, including tayras, dholes, clouded leopards, both striped and spotted hyenas and American black bears.

Recently zie-zoo released an advertorial news paper along with a species list. Curiously their list mentioned marsh mongooses (which would be great, considering how few there are in captivity).

Other "recent" additions include kowaris, (new) ringtailed mongooses and cusimanses.
 
I do hope that they *do* hold Marsh Mongoose - otherwise there is merely a single extremely geriatric animal left in Europe, on the Isle of Man.
 
Update: I mailed them and they indeed hold a marsh mongoose. It however is a young female who accidentally got in a cargo transport. The animal was undercooled and the zoo is currently keeping her behind the screens.
 
Zie-zoo posted on Zoosite that they have tapirs, Bush dogs and pouched rats,
probably behind the scenes, as they were not on display when I visited
the zoo a few weeks ago.
