Nyíregyházi Állatpark Zöld Piramis - a major project of Sosto zoo

I suppose the breeding partnership with the remaining bull at Sosto will be final?

Encouraging to see most of the available females now getting into pair situations (a feat not even seen in the SSP).

EEP does require unrelated bulls though ... :(
 
Orycteropus listed the following shark species as being held:

Carcharhinus albimarginatus, Silvertip Shark
Carcharhinus melanopterus, Blacktip Reef Shark
Carcharhinus plumbeus, Sandbar Shark
Carcharias taurus, Sand Tiger Shark
Ginglymostoma cirratum, Nurse Shark

Unfortunately the Silvertip Shark is NOT exhibited (a pity, as I was looking forward to seeing it). The species in question is actually the Whitetip Reef Shark (Triaenodon obesus).
 
I visited this zoo in late May and the Green Pyramid is truly spectacular. It is a very adventurous 3-level tropical building, with jungle-style walkways crossing over each other. Some of the bridges are swaying, making them even more fun. In the simulated rain forest is (I was told) Hungary's tallest waterfall.

The above noted glass walkway was very cool! As we walked across it, a gibbon played with us through the glass. The elephants -- when they are inside -- are at least 10 meters below your feet.

I don't think they takins and Indian rhinos are a part of this exhibit, as they are across the path.

The whole zoo is great, the people there are very very kind. If you have the chance to go there, do it!

The gibbon in the Asian elephant's inside enclosure is "Tódor", a pretty aggressive male gibbon, who's attacked and killed two female gibbons. So he has to live alone now.
 
Congratulations to Sosto Zoo but in fact almost unbelieveble that in a country like Hungary Borneo Orangs have never bred before !

Although at Budapest Zoo there were born 7 orangutans earlier, but they are all Sumatran orangs. So it is really first newborn Bornean orang in Hungary.

Just checking. I was AT this zoo just last year and I clearly remember baby orangutans. Were they perhaps Sumatran orangs?

According to some information I have for 2011, all the orangutans at Sosto are Bornean:

Joey, m born 1995, moved from Rhenen 2001
Sarita, f wildborn 1973, moved from Burgers Zoo 2010
Sabatini, f born 1988, moved from Burgers 2010
Guru, m born 1989, moved from Burgers 2010
Maya, f born 2004, moved from Burgers 2010
Tigu, m born 2004, moved from Burgers 2010
Damai, m born 2003, moved from Rhenen 2011
Bunga, m born 2005, moved from Boras 2011

Does anyone know who the parents of the new baby are?
 
I was there in May, 2012 -- so it was after your report. I sure thought I remembered seeing a "small" orangutan there -- but I'll have to go back and review my videotape of the Zoo. I don't know, maybe I'm just remembering seeing a "juvenile" (7 years old).

The parents of the baby are Sabatini and Guru.
