I've seen all but 2 from the original list: saiga antelope and jackal. Interesting enough jackals are hardly represented throughout North American zoos, as I've seen around 45 zoos on that continent and zero jackals.

Animals I'd like to see: proboscis monkey, numbat, brown hyena.

You guys are going to make my list longer :-D I'd also love to see Platypus, Quoll, Bilby and so many Australian critters, Sea Otters, Bower Bird, Great White Shark, Brown Hyena, Aardwolf, Striped Hyena (I might have seen them in African Lion Safari in the 80's but that was sooo long ago), Aardvark, Lyrebird, Spanish Lynx, Snub Nosed Monkey, Amazon River Dolphin, any Duiker, Capercaillie, Kakapo, Kiwi . . .

just did a quick tally and there's about 110 species listed on this thread - and I've only seen 28 of them in zoos! But I've seen 15 of them in the wild.

I couldn't list all the species I'd like to see one day because it would be far too long, but among them would be:
giant anteater
giant armadillo (well, any armadillo really)
yapok
hairy frog
Lake Titicaca frog
tarsier
aye-aye
otter civet
banded linsang
etc etc etc

@ Chlidonias, i believe this thread was about Zoo Animals, and as far as a know some of your animals are not in zoos :P

My list:
- Giant panda
- Long-beaked echidna
- Silky Anteater (only 1 listed on ISIS, but they are in "the trade")
- Giant Elephant shrew (any)
- Pangolin (any)
- Platypus
- Male Birds of paradise (only seen a juvenile King BoP)
- Dugongs
- Smooth-coated/spotted necked otter
- Kiwi
- Tarsier

There's bound to be more...

If you can afford the airfare, go to Tasmania and sit by a stream- you wouldn't have any difficulty seeing them wild.

The chance of them entering a zoo outside Oz would seem remote to me.

I may take your advice. There is nothing better than seeing an animal in the wild. Australia has always been my top place to visit. I'm sure I'll make it some day.

I can promise you won't have too much difficulty seeing them in the wild, especially in Tasmania. Best time is probably evening. I think Healesville and maybe still Melbourne exhibit thhem in captivity too.

Healesville, Melbourne and Taronga all have the famous platypus...but I'm sure that seeing them in the wild would be amazing.
