~Thylo:cool:

I've been thinking about how I can update this list and find it quite difficult if I'm honest! There are so many species to choose from.

I would say at the moment, these are what come to mind while trying to keep it brief:

Numbat
Fanaloka (still)
Marbled Cat (still)
African Golden Cat
Sunda Clouded Leopard - completes the big cats for me
tarsier sp.
Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey
Proboscis Monkey
Black Lion Tamarin
Eastern Lowland Gorilla
Commerson's Dolphin
African Forest Elephant
Saiga
Australian Owlet-Nightjar
albatross sp.
Philippine Eagle
Spix's Macaw
Talaud Red-and-Blue Lory
Wilson's Bird-of-Paradise
Yangtze Giant Softshell Turtle
just about every species of turtle/tortoise I've yet to see
Marine Iguana (though not necessarily in a zoo..)
Mekong Giant Catfish

And of course many, many, many others. At least one of the above I should have a good shot at soon enough.

If you ever come to the Toledo Zoo that will cross off half your list.

Polar Bear, Western Lowland Gorilla, African Elephant, Indian Rhinoceros.

And in the zoos past they’ve had Giant pandas, Common Chimpanzee, but as far as I know they’ve never had Pygmy Hippos.

Sadly I haven’t made much headway on this list. I’ve seen:

-musk deer
-Australian brush turkey
-black-necked stork
-jabiru
-tuatara
-whale shark

Hey, 6/14 is good for 43%, so I'd say that's decent headway!!

A trip to europe could get you the following 6 mammals:
-rusty-spotted cat
-brown hyena
-masked palm-civet
-crab-eating raccoon
-bharal
-Philippine spotted deer

and apparently Great Hammerhead is at Georgia Aquarium and Orlando Seaworld now.

Any other animals you'd want to add to this list now?

@evilmonkey239 Nice eclectic list! Pretty sure I've seen 41-41 with Fiordland penguin being the only one I'm not sure of. Anyone know if Taronga Zoo had them in early 2007?

What a great list!! I'm 13/13 on your mammals ;) Know i've definitely seen Albatross and then maybe the Owlet-Nightjar and Lory (been to a bunch of those zoos that keep them). Haven't had a chance for Spix Macaw or Philippine Eagle (Bird Paradise hadn't moved theirs over yet when I visited soon after the grand opening) yet, although would actually make an effort for both even though they're "just birds" lol AND of course HOPE to see Wilson's Bird-of-Paradise wild in the not too distant future!

Then I've seen Marine Iguana wild and captive and possibly the Giant Catfish.

Mammals:
  • Striped Hyaena (Hyaena hyaena)
  • Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrissii)
  • Quokka (Setonix brachyurus)
  • Red-shanked Douc Langur (Pygathrix nemaeus)
  • Dugong (Dugong dugon)
  • Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus)
  • White-bellied Pangolin (Phataginus tricuspis)
  • Ratel (Mellivora capensis)
  • Marbled Polecat (Vormela peregusna)
Birds:
  • Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja)
  • Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius)
  • Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex)
  • Kagu (Rhynochetos jubatus)
  • Spix's Macaw (Cyanopsitta spixii)
  • Secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius)
  • Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi)
Reptiles:
  • Tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus)
  • Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus)
Amphibians:
  • Darwin's Frog (Rhindoerma darwinii)
  • Texas Blind Salamander (Eurycea rathbuni)
  • Kihansi Spray Toad (Nectophrynoides asperginis)
Fish:
  • Whale Shark (Rhincodon typus)
  • Mekong Giant Catfish (Pangasianodon gigas)
  • Common Mola (Mola mola)
Invertebrates:
  • Greater Blue-ringed Octopus (Hapalochlaena lunulata)
  • Coconut Crab (Birgus latro)

Tarsier, probably top of my list now

Also Mola, Honey Badger, Twelve-wired bird-of-paradise

The funny thing is that I've been to places with all of them, just either not during my visit or they were not viewable. I could probably make a much longer list as well, such as Long-beaked Echidna (Still technically a zoo animal, with one last individual at Taronga?)

I'll add:

-Platypus (An egregious omission to my earlier post)
-Dugong (The animal that led me to creating an account on this site)
-Tuatara
-Spotted Cuscus
-Ring-tailed Vontsira
-Bald Uakari
-Bilby
-Saiga (Still a 'zoo animal' from the ones at Almaty?)
-Musk Ox
-Numbat
-Nautilus (Seems to be rapidly in decline? I've been to a couple places that used to have them but certainly would like to see one someday)
-Quoll

If expanded beyond 'Zoo animals' the list could be much longer yet! Namely whales.

Really? When and where? I don't remember this at all, must have been well over a decade ago.
They were in one of the smaller tanks in Wild Reef. I remember seeing them on multiple visits as a kid - that would have been late 2000s-ealy 2010s.

I normally didn't go down to Wild Reef back then, only once or twice I think, so that makes sense. I'm almost certain if I saw them, I would have remembered, they've been a species I wanted to see since the early 2010s.
