'09 to be zoo's year of rebuilding | ajc.com

Zoo Atlanta saw a drop in attendance from 800,000 to 711,000 last year, even with a baby giant panda for visitors to see. Atlanta is a heavily populated city, with the world's largest aquarium, and perhaps the public has become used to the giant pandas, more than 10 orangutans, and over 20 gorillas that call the zoo home. I'm not sure that the new parakeet aviary will result in a spike in attendance, but this little 35-acre zoo is still a charming place to visit.

Recently the zoo's male bongo was euthanized. He was one of the oldest living bongo in the world at the time of his death.

Zoo Atlanta euthanizes ailing antelope

Bingo, the oldest male eastern bongo antelope in North America, was euthanized Sunday at Zoo Atlanta, zoo officials said Wednesday. Zoo spokeswoman Simone Griffin said Bingo, at age 17, was the fourth-oldest bongo in captivity worldwide. Bingo was born May 5, 1992, at Miami Metrozoo and had lived at Zoo Atlanta since 2002. The decision to euthanize Bingo was made after his health began to decline suddenly Saturday, Griffin said. A necropsy will be performed at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine. F Andazi b. July 2006 in Miami MetroZoo.

Her planned transfer has been talked about in the Atlanta Zookeeper blogs.
Which probably is also your source for the transfer of Rosie to Columbus (which by ISIS records seems to have already proceeded). :D

I'm really not familiar with the Epsten Group, any zoo projects out there by them?

It is not unusual for a zoo to use a local architect (as is the case here) for less complex exhibits that mostly require an attractive building.

Just wanted to report to you all that Kuchi and Kudzoo the gorilla's are pregnant and due this spring/summer (The father is Taz)

The zoo had already acquire the Sun Bears and are in quarantine. While 2 of their tigers that left because of construction will be returning soon. Also the old muntjac exhibit will become the tanuki's exhibit.

And now dear Dottie is dead and they did make some changes to the elephant enclosure but did not quadruple it. They don't have the space to do that.
